Post-match press conference with England manager Thomas Tuchel after the 1-0 defeat to Japan at Wembley Stadium in this International Friendly.
Kaoru Mitoma scored the only goal in the 23rd minute as Japan won at Wembley, with England unable to turn heavy pressure into a goal despite dominating the ball and forcing a string of saves from Zion Suzuki. England ended the night with 69.6% possession, 19 shots, 4 shots on target and 11 corners, but were punished for one key counter attack.
Tuchel says this camp will not define England ahead of the World Cup, admits his side lacked width, creativity and attacking threat, and says there is “just no second Harry Kane” after the captain dropped out.
He also discusses the impact of losing key leaders through injury, why Cole Palmer and Phil Foden found it difficult against Japan’s deep shape, Morgan Rogers’ role in the system, the next eight weeks of fitness worries before squad selection, and gives his verdict on Kaoru Mitoma and a very well drilled Japan side.

We all know England will play much better in WC than in these friendlies games. Perhaps it's insightful for Tuchel to work those patterns with a 'B' team. England fans would require a lot of patience, though.

It was truly pathetic that manager Tuchel, who prefers possession-based football, swallowed his pride out of fear of defeat and brought on Dan Burn and Maguire, relying solely on heading tactics. He seems to be making excuses, but Japan also had many injured players and wasn't fielding their best team.
