Manchester City midfielder Rodri has admitted “you cannot turn down the best clubs in the world” when questioned about a potential move to Real Madrid in the future.

Spanish radio Onda Cero interviewed the Spain international and asked about his future at City, where his current contract expires in the summer of 2027.

Sky Sports News understands City want Rodri to stay and agree a new deal at the club.

Rodri continued: “I have a year left on my contract. There will come a point when we’ll have to sit down and talk.”

City are not commenting on Rodri’s interview, which was conducted as he prepares to face Serbia and Egypt in friendlies over the next two weeks.

  1. This is obviously a ‘ Club not a Team debate ‘ It goes without saying that City have achieved much in the last decade, but their pull is based solely on that success and the owners money. Very few players will have made their decision to sign for City based on the fact that they are not a massive club on the world stage. This will appeal to players when they have experienced some success at smaller clubs and want that acclaim to have played for one of the biggest clubs. Manchester United have that pull still, even though they are not as successful. Their fanbase is phenomenal worldwide, whereas City struggle to even fill their seats for important home games. This will sway rodri in his future decisions no doubt

  2. Only reason he's open to leave is because Pep will most likely leave as well, he loves playing under Pep.
Loves the manager not the club😂😂
Great servant for the club though, that has to be said.

  3. i dont like that idea. rodri is not the same player anymore. he doesnt have that impact on games the same way. injury prone and yeah he peaked in 2024…. lets focus on getting a player like vitinha instead. we need that creative midfielder with the vision and capabilities.

  4. He is overrated and Real Madrid dont want him. He didnt deserve Ballon’dor either. The world knows, only these pundits and bots will support Rodri

  5. This guy thinks we are going to struggle for 2 seasons and sell him? I wouldn't be surprised Hugo Viana sells him and brings in another winger from a relegation club. Rodri you are retiring here bud, get comfortable.

  6. Every person who becomes a footballer wants to play for Real Madrid. Is football all about Real Madrid? Do other clubs and other leagues exist? Why do all the best players want to go to Real Madrid or Bayern? Football is no longer a beautiful game. It is corrupt. Football fans who go and watch football matches in the stadiums are losing their money for nothing because no leagues and the Champions League are competitive anymore. It's a waste of time and money.
