Former Chelsea pitch announcer Neil Barnett: Nothing has happened at any football club like has happened at Chelsea, with the purchase by venture capitalists. Chelsea is a financial experiment by a hedge fund that has to make a profit by the end of it, and it’s very, very worrying.

Best way to generate a profit is to of course, win trophies. Sustained success on the field leads to success off the field and in the bank statements.

He wasn’t just the “pitch announcer” he ran all the Chelsea print media. The match day programme and the newspaper for members, *Bridge News*, for many years.

Spot on. It puts me, a long time fan, in a difficult position. I want the club to succeed but I’m afraid of what will come if we did succeed under this hypercapitalist model. It’s consequences will be felt by the rest of the league too with alot of teams possibly copying this model if it works out.
