That time of year again. Given we might (likely based on form) miss out on Champions League football. Are there any players on this list you think would make sense to go after to bring in some experience and or first team/depth options on a freebie to reduce transfer expenditure and to help stay in line with FFP. Senesi seems like the obvious one given we've already been linked. John Stones could a great option but wages could be prohibitive and he has had some injury struggles. Anyone you think would be worth taking a shot at.

  1. Without even looking at the list, I wouldn’t expect any signings that aren’t under the age of 23

  2. Senesi would be a really good pickup, we need dependable defenders with good experience at prem level who can guide our youngsters like Acheampong and Sarr.

  3. Putting aside the caveats about how likely this ownership are to do this, given age + wage structures, and how likely the players are to join us…

    I would take
    – Wilson for sure (had a great season, productive winger hitting his prime, probably doesn’t have to change his home life at all)
    – probably Senesi (proven premier league center back, not wild about him but seems like an upgrade on our worst CBs)

And what about John Stones? I’ve always rated him, he’d be an experienced older hand, maybe not Thiago Silva level but still got something to offer.

  4. Rudiger is free this summer. What do you guys think? I know he will ask for a high wage, and he’s 33 now. But I know he’s better than any current defenders we have. Liverpool and Man Utd seem to be interested in him too. I’m still pissed that UK gov sanctions on us cost us the chance to keep him when he was still in his prime.

Our crap wage structure means we can only go for players of Tosins quality on a free. Or by some miracle we negotiate all summer and hand out a contract with lots of bonuses to a decent player.

They’re going to sign the young breakout star of the world cup as a show of ambition, and he will end up being an overpay and not worth it.
