[Axel Hesse] Xabi Alonso is ready for Liverpool. If Liverpool submit a concrete offer, he will accept, provided his conditions are met in advance. These centre on his influence over squad planning. (This is for summer, not currently)

  1. Have some concerns about his style of football in the Premier League, but I have bigger concerns with our lack of any style at all under Slot…

  2. Whilst I want this to happen, I really don’t see how this squad fits his 3 at the back system. If he comes, I wouldn’t be surprised to see him adapt to a 4 at the back, similar to how he did at Real.

To summarise my issues with the squad, I think we have the full backs to play a 3 back, but not enough CBs. We also have too many midfielders for a 2 man pivot, but none seem athletic enough. Two wide 10s of Wirtz and Szobo sounds amazing, but Gakpo has one of the longest contracts in the squad, and what does that do for Rio’s development?

Lots of square pegs in round holes, which is one of my biggest issues with Slot this season

  3. If he really gets a say in squad planning, I can already imagine Liverpool signing like five midfielders and one confused striker.

  4. ” this for the summer ”

Ig this is just engagement bait for everyone then and more will come till 4th March. Who knows if we win the champions league . Then all this goes away 😂.

Xabi in now, and some nice signings in the summer, Diomande would be great who is also a Liverpool fan.

Will be a very interesting summer if this is true. Provided, of course, we actually do get him.

I’m fine with Alonso, but I have a lot of doubts about the overall structure if Edwards, Hughes and Slot all leave. It’s a lot of upheaval in 24 months and I don’t know if the club is in a good place.

  8. I really want this to be true! I want to feel joy watching us play, results will come after that.

I like this from Alonso, Klopp’s main condition was control on squad planning as well.

  10. Whoever comes in, I just want us to be fun again.

We are not fun to watch currently. Win or lose.

And I know what fun is. That’s the frustrating thing with anything. Knowing what it can be and yet seeing reality betray that certainty.

We had almost a decade of sheer fucking fun. Football doesn’t have to be this dreary and lifeless and turgid.

    Bring back the fucking fun.
