“I think it’s a bit too early for that if I am being honest,” said chief party pooper, Gary Neville, after Cherki had performed three kick-ups in the second-half of Sunday’s Carabao Cup final. “That was a little bit arrogant.”

Pep Guardiola, immediately shook his head in disgust too. Guardiola can be forgiven, given his vested interest. Neville spends so much time being negative about Manchester United, repeating the same “it’s not as good as it was in my day” mantra, that anything that could put victory in jeopardy automatically elicits chastisement.

In this season of all seasons, in a league of bruisers, we need these few seconds of sweet relief. A glimpse into the past when football used to be fun.

If the byproduct of a player with that enviable level of supreme ability on the ball is that, every now and then, he might start doing kick-ups in the middle of the pitch, even when a game is far from won, then so be it.

Neville might believe what Cherki did to be arrogant, but boy could the Premier League do with some arrogance right now. Remember when football used to be fun? No, me neither. So let those who are trying to take us back to those days do what they want, when they want and more often.

His style of play reminds me a bit of (dare I say it) David Silva but personality could not be more dissimilar lol.

Killing of flair is a slippery slope to losing skill, technique and dribbling

I don’t understand how we praise certain footballers abroad for these skills but as soon as it touches the prem its scorned on. Peps tactical beliefs around it is slightly different but people misunderstand that hes less against it but rather more forgiving of it in certain circumstances with purpose

Yet he was teammates with a certain Ronaldo doing all those flicks and step overs. Didn’t hear him criticise that.

  5. Seems like rival fans are hating on Cherki’s dribbling and flair skills… so it’s ok if Neymar did it… but not Cherki…lol. Let him showboat all he want eh… he deserves the moment before winning the cup…

  7. People when flair players stop being flair players: – “PeP rUiNs fLaIR PlAyErS”

People when flair players showboat: – “OmG tHaT’s sO DiSrESpeCtFuL”

  8. But it did also earn Ben White a yellow for his reaction, meaning the left and right back and goalkeeper were then on yellow cards. And it killed time in the game to get all those ruffled feathers sorted out.

  9. Let’s be honest. If he played for the rags we would call him the biggest bellend ever, but he’s ours so we defend his shithousery.

I laughed my arse off when he did that, but then commented he shouldn’t have done it.
