He’s right, why is this controversial lol. I know they lost today but in hindsight nobody really gives a toss about the EFL cup.

  2. So they didn’t set out at the start of the season to win every competition they entered? Just one? Love Wrighty, but that’s pure copium.

  3. Nobody actually really cares about this cup. It’s nice to win, but you’d much rather win the league.

The project is to win trophies. Obviously the league is the priority this season. But it’s never good to lose any final and you shouldn’t be making excuses for doing so

  5. Don’t think that Arsenal aren’t capable of throwing this league. City win the game in hand and beat Arsenal and it’s down to three, with distractions from domestic and European cup competitions.

Whether I cared or not about this trophy is not the issue for me, the issue for me was losing against Manchester City, especially losing the way we did

  7. As an Arsenal fan I’m not going to pretend today doesn’t hurt, but ‘just’ winning the league would be an absolutely phenomenal season for Arsenal.

I mean he’s both right and wrong, but I hate this take. If Arsenal fancy themselves a huge club and truly have a winner’s mentality, they go hard after every single trophy and should be super pissed they lost today. Sure the league is a better trophy than the carabao, but that doesn’t excuse today’s horrid performance. And to top it off it gives City confidence (if they needed any) and likely damages Arsenal’s confidence both for the upcoming head to head match and the league as a whole in spite of their current lead.

Edit: one of my absolute least favorite things to emerge from the online Arsenal fandom the past few seasons is the active celebration of crashing out of cup competitions to “focus on the league.” If that’s not a small club mentality, I don’t know what is, and I’m ashamed of that sect of the fanbase.

  9. It is, but you can have side projects…

Especially after Wenger spent a lifetime disrespecting this competition, we should not be dismissing it as irrelevant because it’s not the Prem.

Small club mentality and absolutely played off the park second half. An efficient team Arsenal are, but not a great one.

This year wrighty has been unbearable on stick to football. Unless its arsenal related he just follows all the other people in the room.

  12. Why work your arse off to get to the final then? Beating Brighton, palace and Chelsea over 2 legs, while having a packed fixture list with all other comps, was not a stroll. Take the L, admit the better team won, learn and improve, and move on.

If Arsenal go on to win the remaining 3 trophies noone will care that they didnt win this one. However, it will surely leave a scar being so comprehensively outplayed by their nearest rivals, cant help but think a win would have really catapulted them on to greatness
