What people don’t understand that banning the burqa has nothing to do with women’s rights, and everything to do with colonial cultural power dynamics.
France pulling this stunt did nothing to actually quell problems of misogyny in the country, it was just a vestige of the country’s colonial past of establishing cultural dominance over its former colonies.
