Big fan of this formation it seems to work and suit the players better then the 4231. Hope we’ll see more from this. Especially when Isak is back i think this is the way to go 👀
It really helped that our fullbacks actually seemed to stay wide in this game.

Keep playing this 4222 please

Ekitike and Isak together up front 🤤
Macca and Grav benefit from a double pivot. RB didn’t have to invert to make up for grav going up and macca didn’t leave giant holes in the midfield.

Slot finally played the formation that so many have been screaming for him to play since August. Bummer it took our coach 9 months to figure out. I have no confidence we play this formation again on Saturday. Slot is far too stubborn to see what works and only wants to play his shit Slotball

So all Slot had to do was drop Gapko. Mad

Is this first time we play this formation ? I can’t recall.

If this formation works in the prem, this could be a solution to our problems.
We have 2 fantastic AMs one of which is an 8 too (it’s been weird trying to fit them into the side together). We have no wingers with pace despite us usually playing a formation that requires it (except for Rio), and we have two world class strikers who would otherwise fight for playing time. If this works, we just need a proper cdm next to Grav and MacAllister can be top class depth for either Wirtz/Szobo or even rotation based on form

I’m going to sit in the sun all day with my dog, wearing the jersey with some beer. I feel like we needed this.

The thing is we’ve gone this a couple of times already this season (Frankfurt away comes to mind immediately), and then gone straight back to a 4231 and underperformance.
Hopefully we can stick with this for a while. Seems to suit our squad much better. Gives Szoboszlai and Wirtz the opportunity to play like 10s and get in dangerous attacking areas. Salah is more central where he can create chances more easily and isn’t isolated 1v1 on the wing (but can drift wide if needed). Macca has another midfielder alongside which covers his lack of mobility this season.
Just as long as it’s not straight back to the old turgid slow play at the weekend I’ll be happy.

I was glad that 4-2-2-2 that we were discussing mad worked
I am glad Son of Slott started off the bench
I’m still glad our Egyptian King curled one in
I am just glad, let’s hope it’s not short-lived, but so glad after so many days

Should stick to this formation from now till the end of the season. At least we will get a very involved Mo and Wirtz.

Big fan of this going forward for pressing, but then we settled into a really nice 4-3-1-2 in transition asking Szobo to use his engine and make the 3. Worked a treat, won the ball back in the middle and final thirds way more easily. Hugo and Mo (Isak when fit) then give us so much danger they have to cover even when they try to get forward.
Wirtz was the crown jewel though, that freedom meaning he created 8 chances… sorry what?!

This has been exactly the issue with this season. There is zero question we have amazing players who are absolutely capable of performing at the highest level. Some games their performance drops almost like magic. It is not a simple strategy adjustment like Mo hugging the line or not (just as an example). I keep hoping they turn the corner and start performing like they can consistently. Let’s hope we are back to our winning ways.

Honestly the entire match was enjoyable. Aside from the theatrics by Galatasaray and some of the really shit reffing, it’s been the most enjoyable match I’ve seen us play all season.
Slot needs to take note. If we can play like that, with that level of intensity, we’d have whomped the league.

That’s definitely not quite how we played coz Grav was deep. But the formation worked so well
Available-Breath-114 on
It’s clear this is the formation to get the best out of the players we have. If we had different wingers then maybe that would not be true. It gets Salah closer to goal, Ekitike someone to play off of, an extra body in midfield for control, Wirtz the freedom to do his thing, and full back who like to be high and wide, high and wide. Gala had no idea what to do with it.

When Isaks back, Dom at 8 for Macca. Mo on the right and Isak and Ekitike up top would be so good

I keep saying it but if we revert back into our slow motion tactics instead of continuing with this Slot is nonsense

Lo único que había que hacer era poner los jugadores en sus posiciones (y que no juegue Gakpo). No era tan difícil.
