Anyone think this english club are bad narrative is overblown. There’s still two english teams in the champions League compared to one German and three Spanish teams. It’s not that much of a discrepancy

There are two English teams in the quarter-finals for the 2025-2026 Champion’s League.

Ok, but the premier league is actually competitive rather than the other big 5 leagues.

Without reading the article, I’d suggest the PL really is viewed as something different these days. It’s not real football at all.

Leagues are not in competition with each other. You can’t support a league. Man City winning the CL wouldn’t be a victory for England, it would be a victory for Man City.
The only thing people should want from the CL is genuine competition, and for no country to dominate it. The more countries with clubs that have a genuine chance at it the better.

Spurs being in the champions league after finishing 17th is carrying a lot of the weight in this dumb argument lol.

And what does the NY times know about football, especially Europe and the PL?
6 of the Top 7 are in the Last 8. Not a huge shock to me, not sure about anyone else.

The implicit assumption in this article is that the teams knocking out PL teams are financial underdogs, which is bollocks.
Its not teams like Glimt or Sporting knocking out PL teams, its PSG, real and Barcelona who are on equal if not higher financial footing to the PL clubs

Silly post. High wages, great cities, guaranteed CL. If you have no connection to England of course you’d prefer this.

An English team won it only two years ago.
Chelsea won the World Club Cup last summer.
The England national team has been in the last two Euros finals.
Elite English players are spread all over Europe. Bellingham at Real, Kane at Bayern, Rashford at Barca.
English football is flourishing.

Arsenal are probably the favorites to win the CL lol.

I’m pretty happy with how English clubs are faring. Man City and Newcastle got beaten by Excellent Real Madrid and Barcelona sides, Atletico beat a Spurs side who are battling relegation, Chelsea who aren’t in the top 4 were beaten by the current champions.
If anything, I think it highlights an issue with the seeding. I always think the top seed of any competition should be allowed to choose their opponents or at least have some say. It would be very complicated (thinking of the chosen team’s wishes) but nobody would want to play Barcelona or Real Madrid, even if they scraped through.
You should be rewarded with coming top of the group stage.

PSG, Real Madrid, Barcelona, Ath Madrid league competitors are mid championship teams otherwise, the premiership competition is much stronger and thus more tiring.
It’s a boring argument but I am more than happy to see a super league created and then the end of boring tiresome conversations about the big 6.

God I love the dipshit knee jerk articles circulating every second day.
The last couple weeks have been all about how dominant English football is becoming with 6 teams in the RO16. Now, they’ve mostly gotten done over and English football is now apparently “falling behind”.
I actually hate the internet in how black and white everything needs to be, this is cup football for fucks sake! The sample size is a couple of games, even the best teams shit the bed, it doesn’t mean they’re shit or English football is falling behind.
Let’s look back at the last 10 years of the champions league, the story is very different I daresay.

Due to the amount of games i do not think this new CL format actually favors the PL sides.
