Joe Cole: The fans are not happy. Since the takeover, they’ve spent £1.5bn. They’ve posted massive losses. The first alarm bell to me is the number of managers sacked. That tells me that it isn’t long-term thinking; it can’t be. If it’s long-term, you stick with a manager.”

  1. – The fans are not happy. Since the takeover, they’ve spent £1.5bn. They’ve posted massive losses. They are four years into a five-year plan. It looks like, barring a miracle, they will be out of the Champions League. We need to talk about the strategy, the plan and where the club is going

    – This model of buy young, develop, and put value on. I thought to myself it sounds like buy and sell. Buy loads of players at 21, they will come into their prime at 25, and the average age of a Premier League-winning side is 27.

    – We’re coming up to the fourth year of the masterplan. For all of the chaos of Abramovich’s exit, the plan was always clear. Buy the best players, get the best managers, win every trophy. If they lose games, managers were gone, players were gone, and everyone knew what was going to happen.

  2. We should stick with manager who is interviewing for other jobs? Like don’t get me wrong I get the sentiment but Maresca had to go.

  3. Turn the heat up on the new owners and SDs.

Every piece about the lack of experience of the manager or unhappy players or the pitch…blame these fuckers.

They came in and ripped everything apart. Fired everyone associated with the old regime.

They broke the club. Make them feel the heat.

    Completely right about the spending.

Aside from our midfielders, every other department’s recruitment has been either average or below.

I’m not happy for various reasons.

No realistic plan that I can see.

No experience being brought. All for profit.

Managerial changes. I don’t mind Liam, he’s learning so give him time but also give him some generals on the pitch. Worked for Arteta, he was fucking awful first two seasons but he got players he wanted ans built.

No goalkeeper- Sanchez is a great shot stopper but I don’t think he’s the answer.

    Meddling into manager’s decisions.

Team is regressing rather than improving.

Constant excuses as to what’s happening.

Top players will want to leave, or already want to do so.

That’s just top of my head.

Managers sacked is not the issue lol. It’s spending so much money on mid players like ganarcho, gittens etc.

The first red flag for me was when they sacked Tuchel to hire Graham Potter. I knew enough then…

All due respect to a club legend but he’s just waffling on about what the fans are saying, his job as a pundit should be to give a balanced levelheaded take on the subject rather than being reactive.

For example we didn’t spend 1.5 billion on the squad, just the “academy” and the loan network, if we can flip 1.5 into 2 billion and bring 2 up to 3, then the money spent is worth it. And if we end up looking like a selling club so be it, this is how it is in Spain with Barcelona and Real Madrid, it’s how it is in Germany, how it was in the Prem back in the 2000s with United.

Well you just can’t really complain about the sacking managers thing can you? It absolutely is long-term. These owners/board have been saying over and over again, “we’re implementing a long-term strategy” since the moment they got here. Yet this sub keeps expecting short-term immediate signings and success. I really don’t know why. This squad is great but it’s not quite ready for a league title yet. Development!!!

From what’s been reported, it appears the sacking of both Poch and Maresca were more on the manager wanting out for “philosophical differences” than an outright firing. So they hired from within and got a guy who has preached long term development (that’s what that whole man-aging comment was about!!!) and appears to align with the philosophy of the owners/board.

You can’t just throw your hands up and say “well why did this happen!!! that doesn’t track with what we as fans thought was going to happen!!!” And say the club is in turmoil.

Honestly, the manager part is bullshit.

Sticking with managers whether they’re any good or not is what has absolutely destroyed United. People often point to long term managers having success, but it’s actually not what it looks like. They’re there for a long time because they’ve been successful, they are not successful because they’ve been there for a long time.

I’d go so far as to say, managers should be cycled through really quickly until you find one that fits. A manager who gels with the fans, who understands the ethos of the club and knows how to win and then stick with them through thick and thin.

Have the board considered brining in a world class manger? World class players?

    Like we used to do?

This is another thing that doesn’t sit right with me. I don’t think our managers are complete morons. They know full well some of the players we have are unreliable but for some reason those players kept on being brought in our of nowhere. If it was only under one manager that’s fine, but we’ve seen this with poch, maresca and now even Liam. It definitely feel like all three of them were instructed to play those players especially when nearing transfer window. This is what’s bugging me the most especially when it costed us a lot of games.

We thought poch was a yes man, then he rebel against the SDs. We thought maresca was next then he did the same thing. Now with Liam, I’m afraid it’s just a matter of time because yes man or not when the SDs interfere with your job and costing the club while you become the fall guy, eventually you will get pissed at it.

It isn’t the managers or the players. It’s the SDs that need changing.
