The KMI Panel also ruled that Newcastle United forward Jacob Ramsey should not have received a second yellow card in the Magpies' 2-1 win at St James' Park.

Ramsey was sent off in added time at the end of the first half for simulation after going down after running past goalkeeper Senne Lammens.

It was judged on a 3:2 vote that Ramsey's "left foot appears to slip as he goes past the keeper" and that it "wasn't an attempt to deceive the referee".

On one hand, great, glad they acknowledge it, on the other hand it’s a bit late isn’t it.

The quality of refereeing has been abysmal this year, can only hope it improves and officials are held to a higher standard.

  2. Genuine question…

if the PMI panel are basically the people who referee the referees and can be trusted to determine the right decision…

Can’t we just get them in the VAR booth in the first place?

    What am I missing?

  3. Fucking ridiculous decision in the first place. Everybody involved on the field and the two people who voted it was simulation need their heads and their bank ingoings checked.

Every team complains about decisions against them. However, I live in Ireland, and as a result, most of my friends support other teams than Newcastle. I have watched many matches with these friends, sometime when it’s Newcastle against whoever they support. Sometimes they’re just hanging out, watching us, against a big team that isn’t the one they happen to support.

And every single one of THOSE games, they sit there absolutely flabbergasted watching the referee fuck us over. The amount of people I’ve had to tell that this is normal for us, is far too many. But it’s always small decisions. The big ones do often go to VAR and surprise surprise when the VAR can’t intervene on Ramsey here the instinct from the ref is to send him off.

  5. Which ultimately means nothing as the ref doesn’t get punished for rnmistakes and neither do var officials

  6. The fact it was voted only at 3:2 is the most ridiculous thing about this

It’s one of the most egregious decisions you’ll see for a long time

Yet 2 clowns still decide to vote with their mates, one big boys club that needs gutting

I said it before ref should get points for incorrect decisions, get x amount of points and you are banned and fined for x games

  8. Very easy for them to make this decision now, after the suspension has been served.

Its good to call mistakes out but we need real change to stop them occurring in the first place.

Referees are not up to scratch and need better training. VAR needs to be used correctly to make the right decisions, if the refs are shit it doesn’t matter how camera angles they have, they’ll still be shit.

Improve the standard of refereeing asap.

I’m pretty defensive over refs. I feel the typical football fan is way to reactive over what is a very hard job.

Watching in real time I honestly did think he’d dived. There was clearly no contact and he did fall over in the box. I dont think the ref is to blame.

Does VAR even review second yellows? If yes, they should have had a proper look at this and overturned it.

Edit just checked and VAR doesn’t review but it’s about to change.

    > Second yellow cards are not currently reviewed by VAR, but that will change from next season.

    > However, there will only be a narrow corridor for the VAR to overturn second yellows.

    > For instance, if a yellow card has been awarded for a foul then the foul itself must be wrong, not just the card.
