I am a Muslim Everton fan, not from the UK, wondering why posts/events like these from the club get so much hate. Do the people in the replies represent an average blue? Even if (hypothetically) they have a fair point, is the hate and toxicity necessary?
It is not as if I am offended, it is just sad seeing fellow Evertonians react like this. Thoughts?

Keep religion out of football.
While we dont have any formal religious ties at present we were founded by a church, i didnt see any invites for Christians or even a post for Lent.
The clubs fans are a cross section of all political views, unfortunately that includes these Reformers (or whatever the more overtly racist version of this is).
Whilst I dont personally know any racist toffees, and I think its less likely that you would see the kind of reaction to breaking fast that we recently saw at Leeds, these people clearly exist.
Some people are just pricks, this has always been and will always be the case sadly – don’t give them the oxygen of attention.
>seeing fellow Evertonians react like this
Are they? Or are they just concern trolls/ griefers on Twitter? Not to invalidate your feelings in any way, more to ask if they’re even serious. I mean, CambriaCalling is just some racist using football as a shield. Their bio, in its entirety:
>Restore UK. WV. NSNO.
So I guess there’s the NSNO, but I doubt the wee fella behind the account has ever even respected “NO”, much less “NSNO” though he may drone on about how teaching Latin is the bedrock of Western Civilization or what have you as people turn and walk away.
If the club is going to post on X / Twitter, it will receive these replies since the platform is a sewer of racism and hate.
It’s time the club abandoned Twitter.
It’s posted on X. The underlying algorithm encourages division and leans heavily on right wing content creators. Don’t be surprised by intolerant comments on any topic if it’s posted on X.
Same thing as “why’s there no straight pride month? Why’s there no white history month?” These people will never get what they want (themselves to get more attention than others), so they take it out on people who look different than them.
Twitter will likely have a selection bias of dickheads on anything like this – some likely not Everton fans at all – but still very disheartening. I do think there is a racism problem in the fanbase that often gets hushed away, but it’s a hard conversation to have.
People are saying ‘keep religion out of football’ were awfully quiet when we had a church attached to the stadium for about 130 years and were set up as St Domingo’s FC, named after a local church.
Wouldn’t worry about it lad.
All the reform and Tory boomers will be dead within 20 years.
Then we can all live in our diverse utopia.
Evertonians are just like most of our society, mate. Many are perfectly decent many are just arses. Problem is with social media that you’ll mostly hear from the arses as all the decent fans will read that and just think “ah, good oh. Everton hosted an Iftar event”. Because ultimately it’s banal, right? Football club hosts event for local community and fans.
I’m sure every club likes to think they’re the exception to the unsavoury parts of our society but none are – not even Everton.
Grandoldteamdotcom is a community forum of Evertonians, largely from Liverpool, who are friendly and welcoming to all. If you’re disenchanted with this social media nonsense I’d suggest trying there instead. They make everyone welcome (as long as you’re a blue!)
Anyone and everyone – except racist, bigoted, ignorant and anyone else with discriminatory views – is more than welcome to the club 🙏🔵
If you have a problem with just this specifically you’re likely a low IQ daily mail dipshit.
If you think we should stop pandering to religion and let people pray to whichever invisible man they like in the privacy of their own home then I can get down with that.
‘To celebrate the holy month of Ramadan’
‘To mark the beginning of the holy period of lent’
Mate for me it’s March but do you.
wouldn’t let it effect you mate. just people looking for attention.. who’s to say they’re actually blues anyways.
Unfortunately this is representative of a growing movement/view here in the UK about immigration, inclusion and ‘wokeness’ (lagging the US). And it can be very toxic, especially with certain politicians taking advantage of it.
It’s partly born out of high immigration levels in the uk over the last 15 years or so (much higher than historical trends) and a level of ignorance/distrust of other cultures.
But it’s also been compounded by a prevailing culture in this country that for a long time would not countenance any discussion about immigration/British culture without labelling everyone bigots and racist. Discussing immigration levels is a perfectly valid political debate.
I’m a liberal but it’s been obvious for a long time that shutting people with opposing views down will not end well. Cue brexit, trump and farage.
Two of those replies are overtly bigoted. The lent one is bigoted but also has an accidental point in that I think the organizing of religious events by sports teams is dumb.
A lot of the hatred on twitter is manufactured through bots and most of it is from overseas and meant to sow Division and hate. Here is a deep dive on a similar incident that you may find helpful: https://www.secondcaptains.com/2026/02/25/episode-3484-the-reality-of-the-edogbo-racist-abuse-phantom-publics/
Never ceases to amaze me how people can misinterpret the idea that elevating and giving others a voice is not the same as your personal voice being ignored…
Its also worth pointing out not just for this but many posts on the internet the replies can be created by bot farms to create traffic, im not suggesting these people couldn’t be Everton fans, but equally all because its on Everton social media doesn’t mean its just our fans, subjects like this are easy to attack and stoke up division.
I’ve seen posts from fan accounts like EvertonHub that are consistent with these kind of racist and bigoted ideologies…
