I have been confused why we haven’t been using Semenyo’s long throw, but I guess this is why

without gvardiol, we have no aerial threat
the most haaland can do is ocassional flick-ons

We’ve never been that good with Corners but our free kicks have taken a nosedive since KDB left and it’s killer our set piece threat

Yesterday summed it up. 15 corners not a single goal.

1. This team sucks at duels in general. The player with the most fire in his heart is a 5’7 scrawny guy who does not have the physicality but makes up for it with attitude. But even he’s getting old and burnt out .
2. The coaching staff and players are either too lazy or think they are too good for working on them .
3. Constant chopping and changing of the backline makes for pretty poor preperation against corners.
4. Arsenal is a huge outlier. They are insane at set pieces. Even if refs stopped their players from pestering the opposition GK, they would be at the top. They’d still have 14-15 goals.

It would help if we didn’t hit the first defender with 70% of corners . We don’t even give ourselves half a chance most of the time

Because we waste most of our set pieces with stupid short passes that don’t result in a ball in the box, and sometimes end with us conceding. We also don’t have good set piece takers.

Because football isn’t just about set pieces, is it? It’s about the title-chasing team sitting deep and defending against a side that’s in weaker form than they are, making sure they can’t create chances, wasting time in every possible way, and trying to win the match and the title by relying on rehearsed set-piece situations… while we play a different way.

We had a really good stint at the start of the season using Gvardiol in a tactic, but since he’s been injured we’ve not really done anything on corners.

We have no dead ball specialists and horrible coaching. We have a 6’5 animal up front goal scorer and hes being tasked to mess with the keeper. Just pure incompetence.

always been a thing we use to have a few short corner routines that were guaranteed shots on goal seems like pep can’t even be bothered our dead ball stuff in general mind numbing

We do suck at them. Opponents must know by now they can concede corners against us and it won’t matter.
It seems nobody has been consistently good at taking the kick. In contrast one of the reasons Arsenal does so well at set pieces is that Declan Rice consistently puts the ball in well.
Second, the tactics we are playing are repetitive and clearly don’t work. i.e. Haaland is always just a decoy. Opponents must know by now the ball isn’t going to him.
Third, the team doesn’t seem to have good organisation to surprise the opponent with who will receive the ball.

Coaching. All roads lead back to coaching.

This is not a real reflection on how pathetic we are, put this stat against the amount of corners we won. And you will see a REAL picture of how hopeless we are

Genuinely a set piece coach can’t do anything if the players delivery are pants. 75% of the corers hit the first defender in the box, it’s pathetic.

Josko is out. Erling is surrounded by 3 players or he is hugging them, either way it doesn’t help. Guehi should be the one who should score like he used to at palace, but idk tf is going on with him. Dias can’t jump to save maya jama’s undies. No other set piece scorer in the squad atm. Maybe bad coaching and not giving enough priority to set pieces?

There was a brief period where we were good at set pieces when Gvardiol would win it at the back post but since his injury it’s gone back to shit.

Pep never prioritized set pieces for his teams. Heck at Barca, 90% of corners were short corners (I m likely exaggerating but still…)
