Going back to Newcastle game, they neutralized Barca with very energetic pressing and man to man defence, and looking at that it was clear that current Barca simply lacks players who could take opponents 1v1 and break the pressing, instead our players are programmed to just pass to the open player, which was easily marked by energetic opponent. Most of the time we had the ball, defenders were passing the ball among each other, then someone will just go for long ball which almost was never successful, despite Lewa being on the pitch. The only 1v1 guys who can carry the ball forward are Lamine, Pedri, De Jong and sometimes Balde.
On the other hand look what Newcastle did, simple 1v1 movement and boom the player have lots of free space to run and stretch the defence.
I just miss the times when Inesta, Messi or Busi could easily break man to man defence and exploit the free space.
Ps: don't know how to put gif in the middle of the text and not the top.

It’s not the lack of 1v1. It’s the inconsistency of pressing. You see the clip where Rashford (I think) is pressing and Yamal joined but neither actually went for the tackle until it’s too late. It’s like they act like a magnet which naturally create space anywhere on the pitch. We work with fast paced football so we can’t stay still and keep the ball moving.
Now imagine someone like yamal on the left – even with half his dribbling skills – that’s what we need (apart from the obvious) – only if balde could cross 😪
We defo need a proper lw ,rashford is okay but he’s not the one that will completely solve our problem, but considering our situation, we can either sign a striker or lw, so I would say sign a striker and then a reliable but cheap lcb and we can sign rashford for now , and buy some other lw in 1-2 seasons when we’ll be more financially capable, we can also find from our academy meanwhile
i don’t think it’s a 1v1 situation.
i thinks it’s more related to the fact that this was the game of history for newcastle and they were playing at home. in my opinion this details can change the mindset of the players.
i also think that premier league football is more aggressive in defence than spanish league
that’s their left back and trust me when i say no one expects a fullback to cut inside dribbling. balde does the same. you may be right about not having 1v1 players, but your example is wrong. plus, flick system doesn’t rely on individual skills. he likes the team to open up spaces rather than 1v1 plays
Falta Gavi en el centro del campo más Pedri y De Jong o Marc Bernal
You know how funny it is to hear Barca fan complaining about no 1v1 players as a Liverpool fan 😂😂 literally bro ur whole team is 1v1 masters and you have the god himself Lamine, I have no idea what u talking about
> Busi could easily break man to man defence
wut
We should improve more on the pressure and let them not breathe
Or newcastle just played well people
That’s hall speciality for you the more m2m you go the better he will get out of it, nothing to do with barca press here
Cancelo deserves to be mentioned. It’s after him cruising past 3 players did we get a penalty and equalized.
Newcastle play an aggressive man to man system because it simply works. There’s question is why don’t we play a man to man press? Our pressing structure is so poor and has so many holes, that’s why we consistently struggle against big opponents in UCL. We simply can’t keep up with the intensity. In La Liga we look like an intense team but the bar is low in La Liga. When we play in Europe we quickly find out we are not as intense as we thought.
