7,500 fans was workable for decades, including within the period of large ultra groups

  2. WeaknessNo9103 on

Makes me wonder if they let it happen so this would never be an option going forward. Large allocations of away fans are allowed in the biggest derbies in Europe and while there is trouble you never see scenes like yesterday because the police presence is ready to contain it and not allow it to spill onto the pitch.

  3. brewskiladude on

I’m also confused by this because it works at Hampden where there are significantly more “away” fans?

“We actually believe that we are not at fault in any way whatsoever actually. In other countries, it is doable, but here, with us, it is not. But again, that is not our fault btw”.

    No worries šŸ‘

  5. There should’ve been more police in front of the away end and in front of the end where the pens got took. It’s what they do at Hampden but of course they’ll blame their failure on too many away fans.

Satisfied with the policing? Did she not watch the hundreds storming to try get to the away end. The fuckin stewards did more work than the police

  7. BananaSoprano on

Did someone mention to her that semi-regularly there’s 20k fans from each side at Hampden?

Said earlier today that the police 100% understaffed and under resourced this game just so they could point at any trouble and say ā€œthat amount of fans isn’t manageableā€.

Nothing would be better for police scotland than for there to be no away fans at all and for them to not have to do their jobs.

  9. Saltire_Blue on

    How many officers were present?

7500 fans is absolutely workable as we have seen in the past for decades

  10. Fight_milk89 on

How is that amount of fans not manageable, but there was enough police? Those 2 things contradict each other. What else would make that number of fans manageable, if not more police?

I’ve been to parkhead with the old allocation, the 800 and the recent 2300

There’s always been stringent ticket checks on the way up. You can’t get anywhere near a turnstile without at least 2 checks.

How were Celtic fans able to get to the front of the Broomloan to storm through the fire exits? WTAF happened here?

Given that it did happen, why were there no police at the front ready for anything at the conclusion of the penalties?

Celtic fans were trackside for Maeda’s goal that was chalked off. Same with Rangers fans for Fernandez’s goal. The warnings signs from both were there.

Both sets of fans have made a cunt of themselves and I include the Rangers fans who went onto the pitch at full time.

Both clubs will have serious questions to answer and I wouldn’t be surprised if we were back to 0 away fans for the foreseeable.

Police Scotland shouldn’t be off the hook for this and both clubs should be as equally demanding from them. We fucking pay them enough.

And they took the easy response that would prevent thousands of normal folk from having a decent away day thank to ā€œultrasā€ neds, ban UB/GB and have extra policing.

  13. Vivid_Ice_2755 on

In the grand scheme of things, how many fans acted the bollix? 300? 400? Out 50 odd thousandĀ

  14. Cultural-Turnip-8840 on

They should have stood behind the goals in a line just before full time. I see that at Tynecastle when we play Hibs, the polis and stewards all walk out.

  15. Saltire_Blue on

I might be remembering wrong but I’m sure Strathclyde/Police Scotland would train other forces around the UK when it came to policing football matches

  16. surely a ban on the union bears has to be in the discussion. the fellas that were dressed in blue balaclavas that were first on the pitch and were seen on camera ushering everyone on were the main source of the disorder. the allocation has worked for years even when the UB and the GB were active.

also how the fuck did the celtic fans even get to the gates without tickets?

  17. Cretins the lot of them on both sides but to say there was enough polis there yesterday is fucking ridiculous

  18. Iamnotyoursubject on

The biggest problem is finding enough police to cover duty on the day of a Rangers home game šŸ˜‚

  19. Kolo_ToureHH on

People really should really take a bit of personal responsibility and have greater self control and simply not run on the park at any point. But with that being said, at Celtic Park during the rangers games and bigger European games, a line of police and stewards always come out from the tunnel next to the away section after a goal is a scored and at the end of the game.

The same happens at Hampden. There’s police and stewards on the tunnels either side of the main stand and they pop out when a goal is scored.

I’ve never seen any preparations like that at Ibrox, even when i managed to get tickets for the derbies back ten+ years ago. And it was evident they didn’t plan to do it yesterday either.

  20. Cheen_Machine on

ā€œThere were enough policeā€. By what metric is she assessing that statement? I heard it was a joke outside the stadium even before kickoff. Then fans rushed the gates, then there a massive pitch invasion. She herself says that many fans are ā€œnot workableā€. Seems like a lot of evidence to the contrary

  21. Less_Paint_2285 on

Either there wasn’t enough officers, or the operation itself had flaws. Regardless, when they clear themselves of any responsibility within 24 hours of the event you know that they’re either not telling the truth or they’re incompetent. The police shouldn’t be allowed to mark their own homework. Especially, when as soon as Rangers missed the second penalty they should have had police and stewards round the perimeter of the pitch. Also having that many police outside the ground, when one set of supporters is held in after the match, is a huge waste of resources, so what she’s saying is just factually incorrect as it was a mismanaged shitshow.

  22. Fair play having the brass neck to come out with that pish just a day after the evidence otherwise was televised worldwide for everyone to see

  23. PeaceLoveCurrySauce on

Just admit ye fucked up, first big allocation since 2018 and ye were caught by surprise with not enough officers

  24. “the amount of fans isn’t manageable, we managed it well, it was manageable” is certainly a sentence you could theoretically use.

  25. She’s having a laugh is she not? It worked for years and years. And yesterday was a total shambles from a police perspective

  26. YodasGoldfish on

If 7,500 is too many away fans then why did the Police allow that allocation to be given ? Worth noting that under Scottish Cup rules , the away club is entitled to request up to 20% of tickets , so someone somewhere has decided that 10k would be too many but 7.5k would be ok.

  27. Worst policing at a old firm game I’ve ever seen , supporter buses in wrong area , letting ticketless fans into ground and leaving it to stewards to face fans as police sat in vans on their arse , be no trouble if policed correctly

  28. standarsh1965 on

We seen it happen, several of those fannies went on to the pitch, the police stood back and didn’t even try to get them off. Probably seeing that the police were not making any attempt to stop them they went back and told more fannies to come onto the pitch
