I think he’s the kind of guy who relishes a challenge. Dominating in the league and finally getting that UCL trophy may be what made him start planning to leave. He was bored. Then Arsenal come along and consistently challenge for the league, Liverpool pip both to the title last year, and it looks like Arsenal will win it this time around. The tactical shift across the league that’s come alongside Arsenal’s rise probably helps too. It’s a new challenge for him to overcome. He’s not bored any more and has lost his reason to leave.
