Xavi went back as a manager and helped us again, so he gets my vote, even though Iniesta was my favourite of the two as players.

In my opinion, Xavi is the underrated and Iniesta is fairly rated by people

  3. Xavi edges Iniesta a lil bit because of his stint as a manager when we needed him the most he got us back up

It’s like saying who was more important for giving birth to you, your mom or your dad?

That said Xavi’s initial years came at a very dark time for the club. Political tensions (Laporta and Russell started a movement), management issues (different coaches were tried and tested), veteran players leaving (started with Laudrup and followed by Ronaldo, Rivaldo, Stoichkov, Koeman and senior players getting old like Bakero and Guardiola) and an air of uneasiness between the players and coaches (Van Gaal was a very strict coach which didn’t sit with players like Rivaldo and Stoichkov). LvG gave Xavi his debut at 17 years of age in 1998. Pep was mostly injured that season and Xavi filled his boots. He became a regular starter from the next season onwards. Bear in mind that it unlike now it was unusual and rare at that time for teenagers to become starters so you know that Xavi was special from the beginning.

Iniesta debuted at 18 years of age when the club was starting its reform under Rijkaard and president Laporta. (LvG gave him his debut but he soon left that season). Rijkaard initially didn’t utilize him much and preferred a starting lineup of Xavi, Deco and Edmilson and using him as a substitute or a rotation player. He would often adjust Iniesta on the wings as well.

I refuse to answer your question 😅

But I will follow this thread 👀

  6. I preface this with saying Iniesta is my favorite Barca player all time aside from Messi.

For Barca, I think it is Xavi even though Iniesta has more flair to his game.
But Xavi’s playstyle and brain and ability to be a conductor was just so integral to that Pep era that without him, I think things break more than without Iniesta. Xavi also joined Barca when they were at their lowest as a manager.

For Spain, I would say that Iniesta is the bigger legend though. Even though both players won the player of the tournament award at the Euros (Xavi in 2008 and Iniesta in 2012), the World Cup-winning goal is such a massive moment for Iniesta.

Before 2023 I would’ve said iniesta, but because xavi came and won barca a la liga As a manager, and helped develop yamal, I now think Xavi is the bigger legend

As a player Iniesta for sure. But Xavi is the bigger club legend than him (you know why)
