I feel like a shocking amount of people don’t realize that Spain was under a fascist dictatorship until 1975, and unlike Germany and Italy never really had an equivalent “denazification” period and just kinda went “Well that’s over, we are a democracy now” so a lot of hardcore Francoists just disappeared into the background.
This is at least my understanding, any Spanish people who know more please feel free to correct anything I got wrong.
