  1. If R9 was the prototype of the “new” number 9, Vieri imo was the epitome of the “old” striker.

  2. He was insanely good in his peak years. Strong, quick, lethal with headers and left foot, decent with his right. He could partner with literally any kind of attacking player and still deliver. From Recoba to Ronaldo, from Del Piero in the NT to Adriano, every player around him would benefit from his presence. Unlucky career trophy-wise, he won Serie A only once and has only one European silverware (Cup Winners Cup) with Lazio. Was part of the 2002 WC expedition and missed an open goal against South Korea, that would have qualified us despite Byron Moreno, but we all make mistakes. Had quite a rapid decline following his peak, and by the age of 31 he looked out of shape and older than he actually was.
