A rampant first-half performance from Newcastle United helped them beat Nottingham Forest at St James’ Park.
Forest took an early lead through Callum Hudson-Odoi before Newcastle grabbed control of the game with four goals in eleven frantic first-half minutes.
Miley got the first with a great swivel and shot, before Hall’s deflected cross was touched in by Murphy to take the lead.
Isak scored a penalty that ex-Mag Sels nearly looked to have saved before collapsing into the Gallowgate net.
Isak added another a minute later where his deflected shot looped into the net.
Newcastle went in at half-time 4-1 up and in complete control.
In the second half, Milenkovic took advantage of a defensive lapse to pull a goal back for Forest, before substitute Ryan Yates set up a nervy finish with a close-range goal following a corner in the 90th minute.
But Newcastle held on for a victory that moved them up to fifth in the table, with Forest above them in third.

Absolutely blitzed them in that first half.

This was one of the most nervy endings to a game I remember, and I think holding on was the catalyst to winning the league cup and our season turning around. Fuck me it was nearly an absolute all timer bottle job though.
