Seems like a really stupid idea to let his contract expire post-world cup and then try to re-sign him in some attempt to limit risk.
That’s not how a single club would operate with things going as well as they have been during his time in charge.
If they’d had a great World Cup and he’d walked because they let his deal run out they’d be crucified for that as well.
Truly dammed if you do, dammed if you don’t.

Feels more like the FA getting ahead of the summer reshuffle. Post-World Cup there’ll be a load of big international jobs opening up, plus the usual summer manager changes, so makes sense they’d want to lock him down early.

Not Man U specifically but some big clubs will be looking for permanent managera in the summer and they will be putting out feelers already. Locking him down stops any distraction with people contacting his agents or representatives to question his plans after the summer.

A phone call with Forest and Spurs was all it took.
