Sancho's contract at Man Utd expires in the summer, assuming that Man Utd do not trigger the one-year extension clause which is very unlikely.

He is therefore likely to be available on a free transfer this summer, but "free" may not be the right word to use given his likely £150k+ p/w salary demands.

Has he done enough to warrant a contract offer from us?

He's taken some time to settle in and get regular game time, but he's started enough games now for us to get an idea of the player he is.

I've been impressed with his work rate, his abilities on the ball in tight areas, his link up play, surprisingly given what we've been told about him by the media and Man Utd fans I've been impressed with his attitude.

His goal contributions have been few and far between. However, he scored the winner for us against Fernerbahce and created the opportunity for Tammy to score what turned out to be a disallowed goal against Brentford. He looks like he has the potential to start contributing with goals and assists fairly regularly with further starts.

He hasn't been a constant threat in any games, he doesn't get involved with every attacking move and he isn't yet a vital link in the attack, but that could come with further game time and confidence.

What are your opinions? Would you like to see him signed permanently? I personally see a gem that Emery given time will unearth, I think he could end this season strongly and potentially return to his best next season.

  1. I guarantee you when it comes to summer, he will make a move, much like linegard where you are left shaking your head and thinking “thats a terrible move for him”

Not yet, but he’s improving, if he can get some good consistency before the end of the season it’s worthwhile on a free

He’s done enough to be offered a contract at a fraction of his current wages. Unlikely he’d take that though when Saudi Arabia will no doubt be offering him far more

  4. Not yet. He’s good but he’s being used as a squad player. I’m not sure how much he’ll cost in the summer (his contract expires at Manchester United in June but they have a 12 month option which presumably they’ll trigger if they think it will generate a fee) but with our PSR we need to be smarter than giving a big contract to a guy who has only shown flashes.

  5. I wouldnt mind making this permanent but of course it would hinge on his wage demands. I think we need to see how the rest of the season goes. If he is able to produce some consistent performances I wouldnt be against it at all given his age and Emery’s ability to improve and get the best out of players. He probably has aspirations to get back into the England set up so from his perspective his next move is crucial.

Even if he had a baller 3-4 months from this point on, it would be a no from me.

He’s shown nowhere near the level of consistency these past 4 seasons to warrant any club with ambition to throw big money at him. Even if he was willing to lower his wages, you’re still looking at 170-200k a week, which is INSANE considering we barely pay our best players that.

  7. He’d need to take a massive pay cut. He’s reportedly on £300k p/w, which is about double Rogers, Emi, Kamara. I can’t see us ripping up our wage structure to fit him in

  8. I’m just not sure who will be willing to take a gamble on him.

I’m sure if Dortmund came in he’d go, but no one is going to be paying silly money. If we offered him a contract I think he’d be silly not to take it. But footballers aren’t really known for logic…

  9. If we have him £150k a week it’s the equivalent to £30m over 4 years.

Could we but a better winger for £15m and pay them 75k a week? I don’t think so.

I also think he’ll go on to get better and better for the rest of the season. Also suits Emerys system down to the ground and adds a lot of composure on the ball, which balances out the chaos that is Rogers and Buendia.

  10. I rate him. He’s good.

However, it’s very difficult to argue that he’s one of our best players, and that’s what his current wages state. Even with his relative youth and future potential, there’s no way he’s on par with the likes of Kamara/Tielemans, but he’d be earning close to their wages combined based on the rumoured numbers.

Uniteds inflated pay packet just doesn’t work within our battle for SCR.

So he may be offered – he’s done enough for that, but I doubt he’ll agree to the pay-cut terms of the deal. I mean, it’s not unheard of for a player to take a paycut – see Mings & Digne last year for example – but their situation was different.

  11. 100k a week absolute max and then yeah, 100%, that’s still a very high quality player coming in on a free, even if he’s just a rotational option, and a maximum of 100k a week means he’s on a similar level to most of our “just below the best” tier of players.

  12. I would like him to stay here. But he’d probably need to cut his wages. I think even if you factor in how much we’ve reduced our wage bill, the fact we probably aren’t paying as many bonuses as before, will likely have Champions League money again *and* more commercial income too – it’s still way too much to be paying and would destroy our current wage structure.

In a perfect world, yes absolutely, get him in. But I just don’t know if I see it when there’s teams who can offer him more money for a similar spot.
