It was the right decision in the end, two wrongs don’t make a right. I wish Sky would take Neville off commentary. He’s fine on punditry but he doesn’t have the voice for comms, it’s irritating and grating. On top of that, you never have impartial commentary with him when Liverpool are playing because he is always rooting for whoever their opposition are no matter what. Always.

Well technically Haaland took it away by performing a foul.
I really don’t see this changing anything. If you are on the side that you want decisions to be correct all the time, then that’s what you got. If you are against VAR and are ok with inconsistency but the on field ref is able to apply common sense, this is a perfect example of where you would like to see a different decision.

Gary is getting worse and worse. He’s now moaning about the officials doing their job correctly and making the right decisions because it affects the highlights of a match.

Lol, people say ‘all we want from refs is consistency’ and then stuff like this is basically ‘all we want from refs is to make up the rules on the spot’

For all we know goal difference could be a deciding factor in the title. We want VAR to get calls like this right and I haven’t heard anyone suggest it was the wrong call, just that it would have been more dramatic to allow it.

He’s brutal! Add Drury to the mix also and the commentary is unbearable

Ultimately the goal being disallowed didn’t effect the result of the game and wouldn’t have done as it was practically the last kick of the game. The only difference it had is placing Liverpool 6th in the table instead of 7th based on goal difference. 2 wrongs don’t make a right , both players committed a foul on one another. My only gripe with it is the red card, the ball was already going in the back of the net without any interference from either Halland or Szobozlai. But rules are rules and it was probably the only real consistent decision in the game.

I think Neville has to think about the long term repercussions of what he’s moaning about and what he’s advocating for.
Yeah in isolation this specific incident wouldn’t have really changed much. But what if next time it’s something that decides the title? Or progressing in the cup? Or avoids / causes relegation?
The idea that rules should be open to being cherry picked to create “moments” doesn’t sit right with me. Where does it end? Turn a blind eye to offsides? Give / Deny penalty shouts because it makes the game more interesting? I really don’t think he’s thought this through and is allowing his short term emotions to get the better of his rational mind.

He’s not wrong. It was a bit disappointing to see the goal disallowed

What exactly would this golden moment have been??? The score was still 2-1, City still won the game, the outcome was not changed. Genuinely do not understand the point he is trying to make here.
Neville now is just becoming this weird attention whore type of pundit, all he does is push narratives week after week to get attention.

Always arsenal fans in every Reddit thread. Thats how you know.

Can appreciate his point. At grassroots, the vast majority of refs would rightly just give the goal and move on. However, VAR adds complexity that makes that “common sense” refereeing impossible now.

it’s the same guy that used to speak about “the letter of the law”, you can’t have it both ways. Yes it feels unjust because a law/rule cannot take into account edge cases every time, but he’s acting like a child.
