I find it amazing considering the squad sizes have been increased, players are knackered and others out through injury, that Southgate would only pick Maddison to prevent a backlash. He gives the number 10 alternative and flexibility to potentially change a game. In a World Cup you need that, have the courage to use it otherwise you’ll be flying home. Only time will tell and let’s see what transpires, but to pick him just to keep everyone off his back is ridiculous perspective.

At least the English know their players going to the tournament. During the US squad reveal, the players at the event walked out on stage holding up their jerseys so that the "fans" would know who they were. The awkwardness was written all over the players' faces it was cringeworthy. 3 points easy.

He knows people Turning against him, without Maddison it would have gone up 10 fold. Maddison can play 4 positions and gets and creates goals, for most he's a great player who has a chance of starting, for Southgate he's too adventurous
