Having already secured Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes, Eddie Howe’s squad was boosted further on transfer deadline day by the signings of defensive pair Matt Targett and Dan Burn.
Targett was secured on a loan deal from Aston Villa, while Burn was a claimed £13m capture from Brighton and Hove Albion.(nufc.com)

I remember being absolutely uninspired an’ all. I won’t look anybody in the eye and lie.

The butterfly effect of us signing this beauty, culminating this summer when he lifts the World Cup.

One captained us in the CL and is unbeaten against CL Champions PSG. The other guy is Matt Targett.

Burn CB is one of the best players we’ve had in the Prem. Burn LB… is not…

Both still contracted to us… just with slightly different playing time

I’m fairly certain this day was the last time Newcastle United will ever pay money to sign a player older than me (I’m 31)

The Geordie is one of the big reasons why we ended our trophy drought and also why the club has changed massively on the pitch.

A signing that went under the radar at the time. I was at his first home match when he walked out on the pitch there was a general buzz of how tall is that lad? Nowt else. Since then he’s had the career local blokes and kids can only dream about. I was there again when he scored that header at the Carabo Cup final. I’ll never forget that moment.
