I'm a lifetime Bayernfan and fell in love with the Toon at the age of fourteen. Today FC Bayern announced the departure of one of my all-time favourites: Leon Goretzka. Let me tell you guys that he would be imo an absolute target for us in summer. This guy is a physical, tactical and dangerous box to box midfielder who can fill in nearly every position in the center. He can play as a deep number six, a linking eight or even as offensive ten. Off the pitch he's loyal, intelligent, passionate and a real lad in the dressing room. He's although very experienced and may be arriving as champions league and world cup winner (or he might join the champions league champions and the country of world cup winners). Looking at Thiaw and Woltemade he would perfectly add up to our german lads. His former stations were Bochum and Schalke, which for me (and Malick and Nick) is the German equivalent of Newcastle so he might fell in love quickly with the club. The best about him: Black and white really suits him. Just joking, he's a free agent in summer! The only con is his age as he's turning 31 in February. All in all I'd say go get him and Leon join the toon. Would love to hear your thoughts on this lads. ⚫⚪

  1. If he’s willing to come on massively lowered wages and a shorter contract then sure. We can see from players like Burn, Trippier etc what having that sort of professional mentality can do to the squad.

However I don’t see that happening. He’s got Casemiro replacement written all over him on about 4x the wages we can offer.

For everyone doubting this idea because of his wages: Goretzka just said in an interview with one of the biggest German newspapers talking about his future that for him personally football isn’t all about money so he may accept very hard cuts in terms of his wages. But I really see that this might be become a problem for us, maybe I’m dreaming a little bit too much…

  3. Would absolutely destroy our wage structure.

Which like, if your Bruno or Tonali fair enough as there is no chance he would be twice as good as them.

bayern fan here who started following newcastle after the walt mate transfer. he is not good enough for newcastle.

  5. We need players who subscribe to some degree to the philosophy ‘it’s not about the money’. One can only dream.

We aren’t going to sign a 31 year old. And we aren’t going to pay even half his wages. It is directly against our transfer policy.

If he’s willing to accept a smaller contract and be a squad player who’s not going to start every game then I think it could be a good signing. The issue is it’s not really the type of player we would look to bring in, in terms of age. Maybe if Trippier leaves, we could have someone older like him who has been there and done it but is still hungry to achieve more.

    Is he fluent in English?

  8. I initially thought maybe when I saw the leaving post on r/socccer but then read the comments and apparently he’s rather injury prone so no thanks

I’d definitely have him if wages weren’t an issue. Absolutely screams Man Utd Casemiro replacement however.

  10. I don’t actually think, even if we take him at his peak, he’s what we need. We have combative midfielders, midfielders that can defend and go forward. IMO we need more creativity. I don’t think with respect to Goretzka that he can offer what we need in that respect.
