      Stronger than I expected in places, but I guess the injury to Garcia and Palace bid for Guessand has forced some changes. Lovely to see Hemmings and Elliott starting though. Hope we can get Onana and Watkins some rest pretty early. UTFV!

      I love Elliott as a player. I get that it was a Monchi signing but id absolutely love for him to give us a summer headache with the small game time he will get.

      Was really tidy in the England U21 tournament.

      I’d imagine Elliott is starting because of the Guessand to Palace situation but go and smash it Harvey lad. He’s been hard done by because of that clause so I hope he smashes it.

      I think Sancho has been working better on the right. I hope moving to LW doesn’t take away some of his progress.

      Similar to what I thought we’d see. Nice to see Martinez fit enough to start multiple games in a week. Wouldn’t be surprised if Cash/Onana play a half each with Bogarde to midfield at half time.

      I hoped we’d see Jimoh from the start but fair enough Emery picking Elliott – I assume we’ll see Jimoh later in the game (unless we’re now keeping him fresh for a loan to west brom).

      Only 9 on the bench. Kadan Young is a really interesting one, he’s been playing up front lately and scored a hat trick last time out. Could come on for Ollie if we’re a couple of goals up. No Burrowes or Broggio. Maybe loan moves coming for them. Or maybe their focus is on the U21 derby tomorrow night!

      For those wondering – Bailey Alysson Barkley Luiz Abraham Madjo all ineligible tonight, regardless of fitness.

      Don’t mind most of this but Onana starting isn’t what I was hoping for.

      Wonder whether Elliot’s obligation trigger counts non-league games?

      Its all very confusing. Shop window minutes surely? Of all the games we have left this season this will be far have the least at stake.

      If he was signing or we terminated the obligation to buy surely we would know?

      So the only logical reason is a shop window start to show match sharpness to would be clubs abroad?

      Maybe it’s just one game, maybe it’s a trial? He might be Guessand’s replacement? I can’t begrudge him a game. He deserves better than the basis he’s been traded on.

      Saying this now. I would love it if we signed Elliot properly.
      He’s, let’s face it, had a proper shit time here but he’s always stayed professional. He hasn’t badmouthed the club online, he’s appeared in social media videos, the advert, etc.
      he just seems like a great person and I really hope he shows some quality and makes Emery reevaluate his opinion on him.

      3d chess by unai, play guessand the first half of the season to make him seem like he’s so much better than elliott so we can fuck him off to palace, and now elliott can kick on for us

      I get why Onana is starting. You want experience and threat in the middle. He can also sub off later for safety with Lindelof joining the double pivot and Konsa subbing in as RCB. If Hemmings can’t play the full game then Cash can sub in at RB and Bogarde will join Onana/Lindelof in the midfield. Elliot starting is also understandable given the lack of availability in RW for different reasons and the fact that Rogers needs rest. But a few minutes for Rogers when necessary shouldn’t hurt him if Buendia needs to come off. Watkins starting with Abraham not yet registered for Villa’s Europa League squad makes sense as well. What I don’t understand is why Martinez is playing when Bizot is available. I know the stakes are high for Villa to get Top 2 but Bizot can do enough justice in goal for this match and Martinez should remain cautious about his fitness for future games.
