So what is the rule talking about, is the referee and VAR saying it's right for a player in an offside to make an attempt on the ball?????

If it was the winner, fair enough. They could have stopped the second but they didn’t.
Also, don’t expect to win games when you have 1 shot on goal in 2 games.
To solve the issue with the current offside rule, just include the clause that if the inactive player(s) in an offside position moves toward the ball once it is played forward then they will be deemed active. The problem with this incident is there's no direct evidence that Rashford interfered with play by the letter of the current law, so it would have to be inferred by the referee and that's a dubious position to put an official in.
If that was Messi he would have thought it was the best thing he ever seen

I'm tired of hearing that the call is right based on the rules, which isn't true. The wording of the rule gives the referee guidance on what to do where there is a passive offside, and that's to determine if the attacker is affecting an opponent or the play. The referee clearly gets it wrong on Rashford not affecting the play. A judgement call is not by the letter of the law.

Everyone is forgetting the speed of the game, and the ball through….. the keeper was in the right position for Bruno and Rashford, no defender was ever getting to the ball be4 Bruno … IT WAS A PERFECTLY GOOD GOAL 🥅!
VAR didn’t do anything because it’s not their job; it didn’t even go to them to check. It was the refs decision and he decided it was ok and after checking with the linesman that Rashford didn’t actually touch the ball, he gave the goal.

With rashford being offside why was Edison adjusting to his shot? The flag went up. So he either should have stopped altogether, or adjusted to save a shot from the player on side, Fernandes. It's a legal legitimate goal simple as that.
This isn’t United fault…this is poor rule making by the footballs bodies. Makes zero sense – the rules that used to be simple are now confusing and beyond not clear. These people don’t know football! The Bruno goal, shouldn’t have stood and that’s coming from a Utd fan.

I guess the question that should be asked is
"When was the flag raised? Was it raised during the time Rashford was running to the ball?"
If it was not raised at that moment, why did the defenders stop their run? Since the flag was not raised YET.
It meant the ball was still in play.
Why did the defenders stop their run? They "assumed" that Rashford was offside. And rightly so! But when the flag was not raised it meant Rashford did not play the ball. So now the question should be, "Why did the City players stop to close the ball down regardless who the United player was (Bruno / Rashford)?"
And City’s penalty against Fulham shouldn't have counted, it happens.

The similar kind of goals have been given earlier as well, like FA Cup final, Alexis Sanchez goal for arsenal vs Chelsea few years back.
I think as per the current rules it is a clear goal. I am not sure why people are questioning it.

I'm an Arsenal supporter & obviously wanted Man Utd to win but I think Bruno's goal counting was the worst decision I've seen all season, following on from Liverpool's ridiculous 2nd goal against Wolves in the FA cup the other week. Its totally making a farse out of the offside rules!
