What is people's take on Pablo now we've seen a couple of games. He scraps and runs (in his own way) and certainly has an impact.

But his first touch is often poor and sometimes just comic, and we're yet to see any of the finishing that made him shine in Portugal.

Can't complain with the results, and we're worse with him off the pitch, but he's a big odd lad.

  1. Still adjusting the league – its a major step up

Love that he’s continuing to throw his weight around and not letting his head drop. Think he’ll come good and until then still offering something to the team

We’ve played better since his, and Taty’s, introduction into the team. Where we are right now, I’d take him with three left feet.

  3. Would rather have someone that gives 100% effort every game than someone who plays a blinder 1 game in 10 and strolls around losing the ball the rest of the time.

  4. He’s given enough for me to continue the experiment. I think our offense looks night and day different since he and Taty have come in despite not actually having much in goal contributions. I don’t think that’s a coincidence.

Minor stat side note – Pablo has at least 2 hockey assists (assist to the assist). It’s not nothing.

Shades of Enner Valencia. Not convinced yet of his finishing, not sure I will ever be convinced by his close control or first touch. But he works hard, stays involved, runs a lot.

…Maybe some day he’ll score a banger of a free kick?

  6. Lacks a bit of polish about his game but understandable being fairly young still. Brings some physical presence on the pitch, his decision making isn’t bad passing wise and helps the attack flow and tick a bit better. Also wins the ball back a few times. Would keep him in the lineup for now to help him adjust.

  7. Great effort, wins a lot of duels and presses well. Started 3 games, won all 3. Young lad and taking a big step up quality wise in leagues so lets give him a break. We’re a better side with him in at the minute.

Puts in the effort but completely useless with his feet. Occupies the centre halves well however

He works really hard, he is basically how I think we should have used Mubama as a hard working target man.

I like him but he looks painfully slow at times.

  10. Definitely still adapting to the speed of the league but doing well physically. Although he isn’t getting goals and assists yet he’s not being a passenger, he’s pressing and putting pressure on the opposition and for every ball he’s messing the touch up of he’s usually getting a ball or two back through offensive duels.

  11. Portuguese fan here. He was never amazing here, never for the level of Benfica, Sporting or Porto. But West Ham needs way more than good feet right now.
He knows what he’s capable of and uses it to help the team. Not to get Numbers. His Heart definitely helped.

  12. His touch is poor and he’s raw as hell but he works his socks off and brings a bit of chaos. We look a better team with him and Taty on the pitch.

Iain Dowie, Marlon Harewood, Carlton Cole.

There’s always a special place in our hearts for a big oaf up front.

And I mean that in the fondest way possible.

i think both new strikers are playing well enough and keeping defences occupied. I think they are what we need for right now. I’m not convinced either of them are scoring 10 premiership goals a season but we don’t really need that until next season.

If we stay up we still need to buy a striker.

  15. Everyone is on a high because of the wins but Pablo looks absolutely not cut out for this level. Hasn’t looked like scoring once. Lots of effort but not a difference maker

  16. Jury is out for me on him. I’m sure there’s a decent finishing player in there. Right now I can’t see it. But I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now and say that i think he needs some time and a goal.

  17. hes a big lad. presses well and can hold up the ball, even if his technical ability isnt great yet, he still brings a lot to the team

  18. Jabbawocky2004 on

Hes causing a lot of problems for the opposition just by making himself a nuisance which is already having a positive effect on our attacks.

Hopefully with a bit of time he can find his shooting boots and we’ll have a tidy attacker on our hands.

  19. If only some other players had Pablo’s attitude and workrate.

He has a shocking touch at times, but works his bollocks off an we’re clearly a much better side with him and Taty in it.

  20. 1 year ago he was playing in the second division of portugal , give him some time to adapt to the premier league, also i don´t think he should be playing in this position

  21. wtf. Dude is holding up play, fighting for every ball, his compete is Soucek Level. People moving off slagging Summerville need a new target?

  22. Seems a bit rabbit in headlights with the ball coming into feet in tight areas at times. Think he will settle and be a decent player. Should have scored in the first half though. More composure needed but that should come with time. Love his aggression and workrate though.

I’m quite happy with both signings they try they make an effort, massive win today looks like things are on the up for us

  24. Not his fault but hes a £10mil striker, its our fault for paying over double for an average striker.

  25. Ok_Counter_8887 on

In my opinion it’s easy to see that he’s being asked to play a unique role for his build and skillset. He’s drifting all across the front, appearing out wide and rarely there in the box, he’s something for the back line to think about while Taty and the wingers cause havoc. Hes a unit too.

One day the premier league refs will give us a freekick for having the strikers abused from FKs and GKs.

  26. GroomingTips96 on

Could do with putting a few kgs on. Early days and the geezer is still young and just moved to a new country and is playing in more physical faster league. Won’t make a judgement till next season

    Can’t fault him for effort

  27. I’m getting Joelinton vibes. Might not be a PL standard CF but can still be a useful player elsewhere on the pitch

  28. Give me unadulterated chaos ball with that man. The goals will come with how much he works, brand new league to him too

  29. Honestly, just having 2 up top and pushing Bowen out to a proper Right Midfield/Right Wing is more than enough.

  30. Him and Taty could get three goals between them for the rest of the season and will be cult favourites

  31. 300Hectares1Kerosene on

Maybe it’s just his name but his start reminds me of when we first signed Fornals. Didn’t seem to have the pace and didn’t have a grip of the speed of the game but always had the effort. If he can turn out like him, I’d be more than happy

  32. Baleri_boopsie on

He needs some time to adjust but you can see there’s something there. I think the pace of the league is probably his biggest hurdle right now, he takes a bit too long to decide what he wants to do with the ball.

He’s also playing an odd role in the side right now.

  33. Reminds me of Antonio always willing to press and physical but usually has concrete blocks for boots. Hopefully he can replicate his goals too. ⚒️

  34. JudgmentSquare2471 on

Reminds me a bit of Soucek at times but the end product will come. As long as he’s putting in the effort and shows flashes of quality, we definitely should let him continue to start and have faith the goals will come. Easier said than done in a relegation scrap!
