It was a case of third time lucky for Joelinton as he belatedly put Newcastle United closer to their first League Cup Final since 1976.
The Brazilian slammed home substitute Aleksander Isak’s low cross for the only goal of the game, having seen an earlier effort controversially ruled out by VAR and then blazed over from barely six yards when it looked hard to miss.
Former Magpie Adam Armstrong appeared to have bundled in a loose ball barely two minutes after the Saints fell behind but a lengthy VAR check however revealed that Armstrong had inadvertently used his arm to propel the ball onto his own knee and then past Nick Pope.
For those of you of the shithouse collective, the highlight of this tie came in the final minutes, as Caleta-Car was sent off for a second yellow, and waved off the pitch by Juicy Jacob Murphy.
