Emi Martinez's injuries may be irritating at the times that they happen. However, if you compare his record to those of other PL keepers since he started playing full-time you'll see he's been much more fit than the rest have. Of course, a bulk of his injuries have occurred more recently. He has missed or subbed off in at least 8 games due to injury since the above stats were released. But he also played through pain numerous times while Alisson and Vicario have each missed almost 3x as many games as Martinez has since the 2024-25 season. Nick Pope has missed almost 2x as much as Martinez has since then. It's also worth mentioning that non-PL keepers Courtois, Neuer and Ter Stegen have missed almost a full year due to an ACL tear or a leg fracture in recent years. Martinez is at an age where injury proneness is more likely but he's maintained his fitness better than other keepers at or around his age have so he deserves the benefit of the doubt for missing games for such reasons.

In the interests of balance, he did start playing regularly much later into his career than some of those others so there’s less wear and tear accumulated in his early/mid 20s.

But yeah, he clearly has a niggle or two that he’s desperately trying to play with and can’t quite shake. It’s not that deep and it’s farcical how some people who hold some kind of grudge from whatever happened in their imaginations in August are using it to pillory him.
