Rafa’s Mags returned to the top of the Championship table with an easy home win.
However, the Millers could easily have been ahead after goalkeeper Karl Darlow dropped the ball as he slid out of his area, presenting Anthony Forde with an open goal.
DeAndre Yedlin crucially blocked him and Darlow recovered to deny Jerry Yates a seemingly unmissable chance.(sadly not in the video)
The Toon broke the deadlock just before half time, as Murphy received Yedlin’s cross, turned on a six pence and slotted into the Gallowgate with his third goal in three games.
The second came just after half-time as Gouffran’s parried shot was slotted home calmly by Ritchie.
Perez smashed home Yedlin’s low cross from the byline before Ritchie added fourth as Shelvey ran through an entire midfield unchallenged before picking his pass to Ritchie to confirm the rout.

We definitely made a lot harder work of the 16/17 title than the 09/10 title; maybe something to say about the calibre of teams getting better in the second division. I remember the first one under Hughton a lot more fondly breaking 100 points was a lot more relaxing than having to keep an eye on Brighton vs Villa on the last game on the season while watching us beat Barnsley.
