  1. I’m always very skeptical what Romano says about
player preferences. Ultimately, if Spurs have offered 40m and we only offered 25m, Atletico will want him to join Spurs.

People had a go at me when I reminded them he turned us down B4 seems he’s done it again.

  3. We should have tried forcing him to watch the match replay from the weekend.

Surely that would’ve convinced him to join us in a heartbeat…

  4. Probably wants game time that we couldn’t guarantee him. So better to go to a lower team.

  5. Wants extra gametime to try and revitalise a faint glimmer of making the World Cup, and Spurs are willing to overpay to get him in. It is what it is.

Let him go. If the price is now 40 million and his wages are 200k, then I think we can do better value elsewhere.

It’s not essential and if we are hampered financially again this summer, I would rather we got someone more vital

  7. i’m okay with this, he will probably get more game time at a lower mid table club anyway.

  8. Surely this means we aren’t letting Malen go on loan. If we still do, we are basically begging for a 23/24 second half fall off.

  9. We’ve been linked with him before, I’m sure he said something about wanting a “big” club, never liked him since. London merry-go-round fodder, fuck him. UTV

I actually think he had a chance of making it into the world cup squad if he joined us. With Spurs he’ll most likely do fine. (Watch him score against us at home now).

Way, way too expensive for what he is. We’d have had to better that price to get him which would have been ludicrous. 25m was just about saleable giving how much we’d have to pay him.

  12. Meh. If he’s choosing a team like them over us then he’s not intelligent enough to play for us anyway.

Overpriced anyway. No way is he worth 40mil. His wages would be too much also and he’s not even guaranteed to start.

    On to the next one.

  13. It’s not his decision. You need to stop listening to Romano, he is nothing but a PR machine.

Gallaghers choice is Spurs and that’s it. Villa are not paying €40m and not in January. It’s not even a debate for Atleti to consider.

Would Tottenham still participate in this dick measuring contest if we didn’t end their season 2 days ago?

  15. Could be many reasons – Champions League football now, more guaranteed game time ahead of the world cup, moving home to London, a better salary. All of which are fair enough.

Or could be just that we can’t afford that fee. We all know we have a seriously restricted budget under UEFA SCR and sanctions. That’s an extra €10m on top of the fee that was being thrown around earlier and half the rumours said it was a loan with option/obligation.

Either way, we move on and Olabe shows us why they pay him the big bucks.

I mean it’s not his fault Villa wouldn’t pay straight away, but wanted a loan with an option to buy

  17. Saw a post about it on Soccer and didn’t see any Spurs fans actually happy about this signing.

  18. I don’t really rate him but if emery wanted him then it’s fine by me. But that’s simply too much. Spurs are desperate as well, so hard to win the bidding war.

  19. Much-Entertainer2320 on

Don’t worry everyone Steve Bruce is gonna chase him round the M25. Have faith.

  20. Even if his preference was Villa, I genuinely think he wouldn’t have mich choice if Athleti are wanting to accept the £40m purchase.

Also.higher wages and guaranteed starts at Spurs.

  21. Healthy_Challenge682 on

I think he’s fairly mediocre. He isn’t good at controlling the ball, and his passing isn’t good either. If the price is right, he could be a decent regular substitute, but if the price is too high, there’s no point in purchasing him.

  22. Well if he rather play for a team that can’t keep a manager for more than 2 seasons and will more or less likely not even get European football over a team that’s since emery been there a top 4 team let him go shows he only cares about money

  23. i d say that for him, its about play time to impress tuchel, which he will probably get more with spurs.

When Spurs are relegated I’m not sure I’d go back to him a..what is it now for villa..third time?

Never are a raft of sensible deals to be had in January

Spurs fan here and you really don’t need this guy. Hes a good player but not sure he’s an upgrade on your current options.
