ON THIS DAY 2025:
Newcastle hosted League Two opposition Bromley at St James’ Park, and the visitors took a shock lead in the first ten minutes with a fantastic strike from outside the area to put their travelling fans in dreamland.
In their frst ever season in the football league, this fixture was also the furthest they had ever advanced in the FA Cup.
Bromley’s lead in their first game against Premier League opposition did not last long however.
Left-back Matt Targett, on his first start since November 2023 teed off Lewis Miley who smashed in a thunderous equaliser from outside the box.
The second came just after half time as Targett was fouled in the box, with substitute Gordon scoring the penalty.
The third and final Toon goal has a debut strike from Danish striker Osula, who ran down the right wing, cut in on his left, and scores an absolute screamer to seal a spot in the hat.
That Miley banger really showed a crucial stage in his development, actually being able to hit the ball hard.
It was quite funny the season before when he first broke until the team, where he had an unbelievably good head on shoulders for a 17 year old but his body hadn’t developed enough and was even struggling to get distance on long passes
