Nathan Aké has turned down West Ham United, refusing to be dragged into a relegation fight – and honestly, who can blame him?

This isn’t just about league position anymore. West Ham now have a full-blown reputation problem.

In this video, I respond to a heartbreaking but honest question from a Hammers fan: if West Ham somehow stay up, would elite managers like Andoni Iraola or Marco Silva even consider the job?

The brutal truth is this: within football circles, West Ham are viewed as broken and unmanageable. Whatever fans think about Nuno Espírito Santo’s team selections or tactics, agents, players and coaches see a club with no structure, no clarity, and no modern football governance.

Since David Moyes left, any lingering belief that success could be rebuilt here has evaporated. The sackings and fallouts involving Tim Steidten and Kyle Macaulay have only reinforced the message. Meanwhile, Manchester United quietly picked Macaulay up for free – a damning indictment of West Ham’s chaos.

With David Sullivan still looming over recruitment decisions, this awkward halfway house between a director of football model and owner control is toxic to ambitious managers.

That’s why the harsh reality is this: Iraola and Silva wouldn’t touch West Ham. The job is now seen as a poisoned chalice.

And if Nuno doesn’t win his next two games? Don’t be shocked if the club turns to a familiar face like Slaven Bilić – not because it’s inspiring, but because he already knows how the circus works.

As for Nuno himself? Ironically, he may walk into a far better job within 12 months – because football knows this mess isn’t his making.

Whether tonight’s crucial clash against Brighton Hove Albion will change Ake’s mind. . . I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

  1. Not only would i not sack Nuno, is keep him if we got relegated. We couldn't attract anyone considered a better manager and Nuno would be one of the top 3 managers in the championship for sure.

  2. Players that can not get into their own first team are not interested in coming to WH. Tells you all you need to know about how much trouble we are in, courtesy of the dynamic duo.

  3. one of the biggest fan disappointments is the club purchasing players for large amounts of money and building them as capable of boosting the team to the ‘next’ level. So many have joined the team and contributed nothing. big disappointments come aboard year in and year out. just get a reasonable loan or two for January.

  4. Come on everybody, we're just one Sully Special signing away. Ready or not, we all know one is coming at the last second.

This is going to be ugly (and even worse, boring) and will only get uglier before this gets better, unfortunately.

  5. No shit!!!
We are more likely to resign Craig Dawson, and he’s probably still better than Kilman and Mavrapanos.

Get it in the head, no one of any use will come from teams above us.

More importantly, who can we get out the door; Hermansen, Kilman, Mavrapanos, Rodrigues, etc

  6. No, we're not a billion pound club, but had Sullivan even had the slightest implementable bit of vision, he could have been sitting on a club worth 2 Billion. Guess we'll just have to wait for the sheiks to come and show them how to do so

  7. It’s hardly news is it – why would he join West Ham.
Yet again going for unrealistic targets
An injury prone Nigerian striker playing poor quality football – might be a step up for him but it’s definitely not a step up for us
Sullivan saying grealish is washed up shows what the problem at West Ham is. He is in no position to judge ANY player.

  8. No surprise to me in fact i respect that call. I just love the fact that Sullivan is beginning to panic. When has he ever endorsed speaking to transfer targets before the window opens? He normally signs them as window closes to save money on wages. 😂 We should all be happy to know the pressure is getting to him and could be worse later tonight

  9. Data theft hack…everytime you order from or sign up to a website put the website/company name as your middle name, then you’ll know who has sold your data

  10. The incompetent numpties running the club have failed to set up links with other European clubs the way most other Prem clubs have, so pretty much anyone who looks promising is already signed up within a prem league clubs group . Even if we stay up this season , within 5 years West Ham will be championship level.

  11. Of course he did! Ask yourself one question with every player – Why would he come here?
The two teams below us, championship clubs with no chance of promotion and journeymen after a payday – that's our market.

  12. No one wants relegation on their CV. I wouldn’t want to play for West Ham and I’m a fan. All of these rumours are not worth listening about. Will only believe it when they step foot on the pitch. Blimey Fullkrug left days ago to make sure the deal went through. Same with Guilherme. So what then has happened to Marshall who ain’t getting anywhere near the bench. If he ain’t got a chance of getting on send him on loan to the championship where he can gain experience for next year. Same with Orford and possibly Kanye. If we go Magassa and Fernandez will probably be sold with Paqueta

  13. Our club has been abused for to long, David Moyes was the only one that could keep a loose lid on David Sullivan, I’m not sure what the future holds for us apart from lots more turmoil

  14. Frankly Gonzo I am stunned we actually manage to get players OR managers to join us. We bemoan the fact we only sign out of work managers but maybe the reality is that they are the only ones we can attract. In terms of attracting players I would cite our failed track record of striker signings. Any striker who knows we have signed 50+ strikers during Sullivan's ownership tenure and only TWO have managed to score more than 20 goals (that's 20 total goals mind you, not 20 in a season) must surely know that moving to us would be a BAD choice.

It certainly appears that the MSM have finally woken up to what the issue is at West Ham. For several years now it is the fan base that as been vilified. The issues with the club are all our fault. In effect we are also the victim of being thrown under the bus by the owner. Slowly but surely though, Sullivan has run out of shields to place in front of him to deflect the criticism from him. He still has one in his back pocket though and that is Brady. He is saving that one till it goes nuclear and then she will be sacrificed in an attempt to save his arse.

Sullivan has nowhere left to hide. The game is up. His failings are at such an epic level now that they simply cannot be hidden anymore.

  15. In all honesty, I don't think that this would have been a good move for either party. He,even as a defender, plays for an attacking team that enjoys a lot of possession. As a result they're best form of defence is to catch you offside and not defend. We're always on a back foot. Backs against the wall.
