Sporting Lisbon are close to agreeing a deal for the permanent transfer of West Ham winger Luis Guilherme. The Portuguese club have overtaken their rivals FC Porto in the race to sign the 19-year-old Brazilian. [ESPN Brazil]
We’re so poorly run. Speaks volumes that 2 of the best developmental clubs in Europe think there’s talent there while we have grossly mismanaged him over 2 seasons. We bought him and pretty much just stuck him on the bench or left him out of the squad entirely while also not letting him play U23s or get a loan move to acclimate better to English football

Wonder how much of the 27m we’ll get back there??? Does it say 23m euro in the article? Seems unlikely

At what point does the selling stop and the buying start

Personally I think this is a mistake. Guilherme has talent but he’s still very young.
I would loan him out to one of these top Portuguese teams, perhaps even for two seasons. He’d still only be Freddie Potts’s age at the end of that and might well have developed into a decent player.

I hope he becomes a star the way we’ve treated him has been a disgrace.

Another in the long list of short sighted decisions the club makes. Spends money to bring in young talent, does everything possible to stop him from settling in and then sell him for a loss after 18 months because he’s not a world beater yet
