  1. I’m not sure Reeves is to blame. I wonder how much the workers were getting paid? I’m pretty sure Pep could have helped here.

    Prices seem a little mixed, some cheap items some expensive – mains at around £30 is ok but not particularly accessible for many when the cost of living is so high.

    Inflation causes prices to spike on produce, expensive rates and the cost of energy can’t have helped.

  3. I live in Manchester. The restaurant isn’t so great – it is comfortably outcompeted by superior tapas bars at similar or slightly lower price in the same general area, namely La Bandera, Evuna or even Gato Negro.

  4. Yes, restaurants never closed before Reeves became chancellor. Famously they are super easy to set up and to keep running.

    Seriously some people must stub their toe and curse Reeves at this point.

  5. So a guy who’s earning millions and millions of pounds can’t just take the extra cost on himself. Instead he’s just firing all those people? He wouldn’t even feel a slight difference in his bank account.

    Meaning: It’s been absolutely rough for a year, and Reeves’ budget gives us a perfect excuse out.

  7. I work in the industry in Manchester and have a close friend who’s worked there.

    Started off great, over the years has sharply declined. In the past couple has greatly suffered through issues all hospitality venues have. Didnt have the personnel to keep it above water, managers were weak. 

  8. Their accounts are publicly available, it’s been losing money for years £1.469m in 2022 £1.592m in 2023 £1.809m in 2024.

    Debt continued to increase. The only notable person to do well out of this is the director whose loan was mostly repaid.

    There is no mention of “tax increases” as a reason to close from the business itself. “Journalism” is dead now.
