Better team? Truth is that none of the "big" clubs would want any of Newcastle's players. Gordon is capable of being a fantastic player but he doesn't turn up often enough. Newcastle's team are an established mid-table team playing badly – but they are not top 6 without a striker. The whole setup now looks tired and out of ideas. And, his fabulous finish on Sunday not withstanding, Woltemade looks too slow for the premiership. When poor defending gives him some space he looks fine but under pressure he usually loses the ball.

Sunderland did get the better of the game physically but created virtually nothing in terms of chances. The hectic nature of the game was pretty exciting but it was a very poor quality game of football.
Newcastle’s performance was hardly surprising – they’ve played just like that quite a few times this season.
It sounds like he's blaming the other players when he's just as culpable himself, why try and pass to a player when there's a defender in the middle, in other words Bruno, why do you keep passing to the opposition and setting up their counter attacks? And why try and hold on to the ball for as long as you can? What does this achieve? Has it ever worked for you? All 11 were garbage, our midfield which is meant to be one of the strongest in the premiership was weak, they looked fearful every time they were on the ball and rightly so, because Sunderland took it off them with minimum effort. Credit to them, they turned up at least and got stuck in, they wanted it more, that was plain to see but they also offered nothing either when it came to goals, if it wasn't for Woltemade, and only God knows what he was thinking, the game would have ended 0-0.

One of the few that actually tried and showed an ounce of passion yesterday. Certain players really need to look at themselves in the mirror – Anthony Gordon especially. He's an overrated penalty merchant. Elanga looks a waste of £55 million. Major changes and reality checks are needed before we can turn this round.
