André Schürrle – man wusste einfach, das wird nüscht

Maybe Emre Mor? Came with huge expectations and never caught on. And sadly (for him) all his other stations weren’t successful either.
Edit: read a few comments and I agree. Mor fits better with wasted potential.

Ricken. Two iconic goals and a lot of mediocrecy afterwards.

I think most overrated has to go to someone that is a controversial opinion. If you name guys like Mor or Schürrle, that’s not them being overrated. That’s them underperforming expectations. Overrated to me means someone people rate highly despite them being mediocre.
My shouts would be Schmelzer or Subotic. Both legends in their own rights, both superb human beings. Both, to me, the weakspots in an, amazing, legendary team.

Burki would be mine. He’s beloved but he was very average to below average very quickly in a decline here. It was dramatically different the second he left how out of form he was for a good portion of his time here

Pulisic. Hear me out. He wasnt 64M worth when he played for Borussia Dortmund. He wasnt even a starter.
We still got a crazy amount of money for him.
Nowadays he proved us wrong.
Same could be said about Beier. 50m for him? I like beier but he isnt worth that much

Thorgan Hazard
After a strong first season, his impact declined due to inconsistency and injuries. He was a technically clean player but not the kind of winger who regularly decides matches or breaks down defenses. Overall, he was solid, but not the key attacker many fans hoped for.

I‘d say Henrik Mkhitaryan.
No doubt a great player but the conditions that had to be met for him to play good were very tight.
Had basically 1 horrible, 1 mediocre and 1 good season with us.

I would argue Sancho’s loan stint for us is being overrated by many people.
I love him as a player, and he was world class for us from 2018-2021, but his loan spell in 2024 was very mid. He had maybe 3 good games? And many people were too blinded by nostalgia to really rate his loan fairly and honestly

I would say Sahin. His first stint at the club was very good, but after his transfer to Real Madrid he never reached the same level as he had before. Meanwhile we were able to compensate for his loss and won the double after his departure. He has a high reputation amongst fans but his performances were more often average or worse than good

Made mistakes very often. But many people see a rose tinted version of him after the bombing

Julian Weigl when he was here was massively overrated. Didn’t offer much except for high completion rates on safe passes. Yet everyone loved him.
Current squad, as much as I love him, I think Ryerson is overrated. His lack of technical ability at WB sometimes makes our ball progression clunky and messy.

I feel harsh to criticise a young player but I feel like Gittens. I never felt like there was a time he made the best XI although he provided an impact from the fringe more than a few times. €50m for him felt very strange considering only one team seemed to want to sign him from us and they already had better players in that position that they were not continuing with (Madueke, Sancho)

How is moukoko not mentioned yet? I feel sorry for him and really hoped he’d make it, but He was hyped up for so many years, had a good start with the first Team and then – nothing.

Moukoko – everyone in a football world knows him, while he was really really average for most of the time and those good opinions on him were only because of his debut at so young age

Pulisic and its not to say he was a bad player but his doctor definitely didn’t warrant a 65 million euro move to Chelsea
