After being unveiled as the new head coach of Portugal on Monday, Roberto Martinez told media that Cristiano Ronaldo is in his plans for the team, and that he wants to hold talks with the Al Nassr striker.

Ronaldo had a disappointing World Cup in Qatar, with the ‘Selecao’ skipper dropped by former head coach Fernando Santos for the knockout games against Switzerland and Morocco in what could be his last finals campaign.

However, Martinez isn’t ruling out a first team return for 37-year-old – who has scored 118 goals in 196 caps – saying: “He has been with the national team for 19 years, and he deserves the respect for us to sit down and talk.”

  1. I think this coach is suitable for the Portugal team & yes cr7 should b a part of the team until he retire, he's a legend and icon for majority of players around the world.

  2. The Generational Destroyer.
Say goodbye to your next generation Portugal.
The biggest faker in the football world.

  3. My advise, dont put bruno fernandes and some other guys who disrespect ronaldo, let the young player who respect ronaldo and appreciate him play in the squad…

  4. Any teams performance and results depends on the coach but a lot of it depends on the players too. The coach doesn’t control every decision players make during the match so I’ll give Roberto the chance to see what he can do with Portugal. A lot of people want Mourinho to take over and i think he is a great coach but he is a volatile individual
Look at what happened with Manchester United and him.

  5. that's what you always say he's part of our plan to disrespect him in the middle of a competition he knows how to get criticized by everyone the world cup has come and as if the outside criticism wasn't enough yourself Portuguese that you are you criticize him you stay there doing polls on whether he should play or not you forget that before he arrived the Portuguese had not even won euros he comes to win you the euro 2016 followed by the league of nations how can we act like that if portugual knows how to get eliminated from the world cup it's not because of cr7 but because of your criticism he has time to give for his country and that's how you got it thanking, cr7 is part of our plan to then humiliate him, you stay there pretending instead of really saying your real intentions.

  6. Well typical words from a bad coach. You have great young Portuguese players, you have been appointed as new Portugal coach, build a new team around these young players !!
The world was witness of Ronaldo’s behavior and current level at MU and during the WC. All the players must learn to retire.
Martinez already destroyed Belgium golden generation.
Remember : national teams don’t need the “best players” on the field, they need the best coach who will be able to create a team and a team spirit, getting the best from each player!!
    Look at Brazil and Argentina

  7. What am i seeing……he already destroyed belgium and now on his way to waste portugals future too. These FA's just dont want managers who win, like damn Mourinho..
