What are your thoughts on this situation?
Parents regardless are out of boundaries sad. hope Gio shapes up or else👌Dortmund is very concerned about their investment 🙄
Who gives a shot about what someone did or didn’t do 30 years ago!!! That’s a liberal bs virtue signal!
Berhalter OUT
Again with the blackmail lie. Both the ESPN and Athletic report said there was none. Pushing Berhalter’s narrative is taking his side but that’s not surprising from Alexi
Anyone have any Dirty Laundry they want aired?…………………….. didn't think so…………..
Danielle and Claudio Reyna = Worst parents of an athlete EVER.
Rather have a great coach, than a selfish player, it's a team game
This had to have been very divisive for the USMNT in the midst of World Cup competition. A huge distraction. It’s the coach’s decision who plays and who subs. Gio is young – he’ll learn.
Why do we keep giving GGG a pass for throwing Gio under the bus?! Plus, why would he go and tell Gio that he wasn't going to be much of a contributor at the biggest event?! did he do the same with Roldan? Aaronson? Yedlin? Scally? de la Torre? Acosta? if he had the same conversation with all those players, then I take it that that is his style but if he only did it to Gio, then that seems personal to me.
Problem is a player’s parent was easily able to get an audience with the USSF Sporting Director.
Root cause of that problem: We draw from too small of an “ecosystem” for our soccer leadership. They all have history together, Alexi included.
Can we just ignore the Reynas already. Just shows how small soccer really is in this country. Archie manning was an all American and long time starter in the nfl with two kids who will be hall of famers. No one in football cares what he or his wife thinks.
It’s not like Gregg went to the press with the story. He was talking at a leadership conference eland was discussing how he leads. I see nothing wrong with it. He didn’t even say who it was. If he went to the press I would understand and be upset with him. But he didn’t. I’m sure he spoke to all the players that were not going to contribute much. Gio is the only spoiled entitled kid that threw a temper tantrum. I’m sure Morris and Roldan still went about training professionally while Gio didn’t. I’m not a huge fan of Gregg but I don’t feel he did anything wrong. But Gio’s parents are a disgrace and should be embarrassed by their actions.
The mom is a total Karen. She is out of line!
This is the problem you get when you hire your brother.
If the Reyna's and their drama are why Gregg leaves then i gotta say Claudio is still out there dropping dimes for assists TY Reyna's!
Mr lalas berhoktwr did not get screwed he screwed himself assault on a women he did not disclose during hiring process
All is the US Soccer federation is dysfunctional… it is so incestuous… don’t forget GGG’s brother, oh yeah and the fact that CR traded GGG’s son… they need to clean house… just because these guys went to a World Cup together doesn’t mean that USSF should be a fraternity. Time to clean house
The Reyna's are snakes who should be banned from any further involvement with US Soccer
Ggg carried this on when he did that Ted talk. What should have happened should be like the old saying “ what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas.”
Greg got Gio to apologize for his behavior and to the team. Ggg deserves some of this blame.
Don’t lay this all on the Reynas
Most fans didn’t want him to coach the next cycle.
The most unfortunate thing about this, is that it is overshadowing the fact that Berhalter is a mediocre coach and should not coach this team one more day.
If GGG's comments at the conference were routine, the media's reaction to them and the many leaks from the staff were not.
No one is really talking about where this started. It started when Claudio cut GGGs son from Austin FC. No coach tells a player before the biggest event in their life "you aren't going to play much" unless they have an agenda. Gio threw a fit because he knew exactly why he was being sidelined. This whole thing is messed up but ultimately it all starts with GGG and the horrible nepotistic USSF
Player's parents shouldn't hold this kind of power over national side's manager, there needs to be repercussion to stop this kind of thing happening in the future. May be ban both of the parent from working with a soccer team for 5 years & Gio banned from USMNT for 3 years or so.
Gio needs to take a hiatus from the team and he needs to cut the cord with his parents.
Why is this a story. What does something that happened 30 years ago have to do with this kid getting benched in the WC. This soccer mom nonsense does not exist in countries that actually perform in the WC. Get it together USSF!!
I don’t think Gio Reyna should be barred from the next WC if not at least a 2 year suspension
If Berhalter looked at that squad and didn't think Reyna was one of the best 11, that's a problem.
If gio rena was playing all the game, it would have been a possibility that united states could have been in semi finals in Qatar world cup period
Alexi, you got it wrong. It is Berhalters revelations on Gio post world cup that triggers Danielle Reyna's contact and throwing Berhalter under the bus. Berhalter screws himself. The Reyna's look bad, but hopefully that does not impede Gio's career. As far as Berhalter coaching career, GB acted like a child and deserves to face whatever consequences come his way.
Gio should never wear the USA jersey again. Claudio should loose his job at Austin. Claudio and his wife should be banned from all US soccer activities. Greg should be replaced because he is a bad coach, but not due to these allegations.
My thoughts are that Danielle Reyna was ultra petty and malicious. Gregg did a fairly decent job, but now he can't move forward as coach. He must move on. I also think that there is too much nepotism in USMNT. We need to branch out more and cast wider nets for leadership positions. Way too many folks knowing each others business. It's like they are all family members.
I mean US is not good enough to win World Cup with or without gio Reyna now or in 4 years so….yea if Berhalter is fired for this whoever is the next coach should def not call gio Reyna up. Who needs THAT hassle
Whether you like Berhalter or not, and I get the criticism for sure, but regardless, it's not okay for a player's parents to try to influence or punish a coach's decision on who plays in a world cup. People also forget that Gio Reyna was just coming back from injury, having played maybe a handful of games for Dortmund, so how fit was he really for a world cup, who knows..
USSF NEEDS to CLEAN HOUSE! Even though this was all terrible it does show the enmeshed nature of US Soccer currently. The fact that a players mother is calling and taking to the head of USSoccer (a friend) about her son's situation. Where are the professional boundaries? Too many family ties (Jay and Gregg Berhalter) and too many friendly ties. Bring in someone from the outside as the next coach.
David Mosse is the true star of this podcast. Clearly has more knowledge of world football.
USSF messed up when they got rid of Klinsmann. He improved the whole youth system. From the bottom up. This would of never happened under his leadership. He had it all, knowledge, vast playing experience/coaching and loved US soccer.
These coaches we had after him are not world class. Too much,I know this guy that I played with. My family is tight with this guys family .Its like inbreeding problems. Way too much.
You don’t hear this in other countrys federations.
Let’s get it together guys WC 26 is coming on our soil. We got an amazing generation of players, don’t mess it up.
Hi Alexi, from the good old days of playing against you and your bro at Square Lake ❤!
I enjoy your show. Keep up the good work. CB United 4 Ever . Lol
I assume USMNT execs and general managers would not normally accept calls from parents of a US team member. This is the problem. They should have told the Reynas that they are no different than other parents and that they won't listen to them. It's the USMNT/USFF execs responsibility to draw a line and keep friendship out of it.
Can someone help me understand why this accusation had to become an investigation at all? 31 years ago! Couple have been married for 25+ years. Multiple children. The USSF made the decision to make this a 'thing.' Why did the USSF feel that it needed to be involved? Is there a legal obligation on the part of USSF to begin an investigation over this?
Just no soccer culture whatsoever. Only here does that entitled parent AAU mentality actually rises to such a level. Pathetic.
So on top of having a roster that lacks world class strikers and a coach that gets out coached at times, now we have former players that are heralded as USMNT royalty are allowed to put themselves and their family over the national team itself. We have a 19-20 year old spoiled brat that has his actions and attitudes accepted by his parents and then the spoiled brat adults in that family feel that they are all worth more then the team at large. Mind you this “better then everyone else” family decides to not only applaud their sons actions but in the midst of it all they publicly come out and try and destroy life long friends of theirs. This is the most ridiculous, immature and distracting thing I’ve ever seen. If my best friend is the head coach of the USMNT and my son plays for him, I’d expect my son to not only be a great teammate but also be as respectful to his uncle as possible and be an asset. Not a problem starting headache for the team. The reynas as a family should be ashamed of themselves
Alexi, can you please address the fact that in 3 years prior to the World Cup, Gio only got 400 minutes of playing time with the national team. Can you address the fact that through out his coaching stint GGG threw quite a few other good US players under the bus. While producing minimum results. The available talent pool of US players is the best the US has ever had. The results of the team success is the bare minimum and you accept that and consider giving another 4 years. We need to clean house and investigate why GGG's brother was allowed to hire GGG in the first place.
