The world cup fall-out isn’t over as the drama between the Reyna family, Gregg Berhalter and US Soccer ramps up. Accusations of blackmail, inappropriate behavior, domestic violence and so much more lead to a confusing soap opera that’s playing out in the public eye. I break down what we know and speculate about what we don’t know.

  1. New theory: sham US Soccer investigation with a conclusion of Berhalter’s personal growth and redemption. I bet they are desperate to create a narrative that with justify rehiring Gregg.

  2. Pete…. Ggg "Outted" Gio on Dec.6th, at the HOW(Stupid Am I )Conference… Not Dec.11th…Dec11 was when the Articles came out… The Atlantic or Someone, had a Reporter in the Audience… Then they got the Transcript… I imagine the USSF and Ggg were Contacted for their "Input" before Publication… Doesn't seem like the Reyna's were Contacted, in Advance… Todo, esto, Es Muy Triste… 🙁 … HalterFields and McReynas will be Feuding for the Next 30 Years.!!!

  3. Imagine you are a top talent dual nat trying to choose where to play international ⚽, would you play for the US and pay half your earnings to the women's team and insert yourself into a toxic system full of family ties, dramas and tensions? I don't think so

  4. When is Sebastian Berhalter gets cut by Cladio? Is it before World Cup or after? I don't think Gio was told to have limited playing time before World Cup is normal soccer strategy. Some things are fishy between these two families.

  5. USSF is a joke and at this point I don't want any of these idiots to be in charge of a damn thing come 2024. Time to let Ernie,Gregg and Brian go start over anew with fresh faces who can bring professionalism to the USMNT

  6. Why would Gregg rat himself out about his past domestic violence incident and put his coaching career in jeopardy? Gio’s parents are entitled soccer parents looking to get even.

  7. The big 5 – 10 players in the player pool need to come out in force against ggg. If Puli, McKennie, Adams & Co. say they won't play for Gregg, he won't get the job.

  8. If Berhalter is brought back as coach, fans shouldn't buy any merchandise or tickets. Hit the federation where it hurts, and that is the profits then they will get the message from fans.

  9. I'm here just sitting back watching all of this and I don't even know what to say. I've had a bad feeling ever since Stewart was hired and since then we've had to endure 4 years of some of the strangest soap opera nonsense with Greg Berhalter. FOUR YEARS OF THIS IS ENOUGH! How many? How many more players are they willing to let go before ussoccer realizes berhalter is hurting this program. This is so bizarre. I don't think this is going to end well for all parties and I'm sure lots more will come out before it's all set and done. After all this you watch them extend Greg's contract to at least the gold cup. My goodness I hope I'm wrong but if he is extended watch players refuse call ups. Seriously what has ussoccer become? Sad times.

  10. GGG only wants to remain as coach because what ever possible options he had to coach got squashed with this domestic abuse discovery. Now he is going to want to claw on this job

  11. What is truly annoying about all this is that it is entirely besides the point of has Berhalter done enough in the here and now coaching the National Team… his contract is over and done now…. he doesn't need to be "fired" because the contract ran through 2022, it's January 2023 now.
There are no winners in all of this but Berhalter now is clearly toxic and while he might "want" to continue, so what… has his coaching over the past three years merited him getting a renewal ? After seeing his behavior towards several players, Brooks, Hoppe, Miazga, Pepi, Pefok, Green , LDT, Williamson, Horvath… just to name a few… why would he be expected to do a BETTER JOB now?
Entirely apart from what went down decades ago… what of great worth did he accomplish in RECENT YEARS??
The sad truth here is that we have done poorly away from home the whole time… some of which was his fault some of it was the fault of FIFA's pushing their Nation's League money makers limiting what countries we can play friendlies against. But the reality is we have gone from playing a 4-4-2 to a consistent 4-3-3 in a high press, high line formation… and generally it meant we had to depend on our defense to keep us in matches… our offense suffered and that was the issue that got Berhalter. bounced coaching in Scandinavia years before.
Before this soap opera became front and center, he wasn't doing all that outstanding job… and that should be the primary factor in his continuing on as the National Team coach, but what now is clear is that this won't just go away now and pretending that Gregg is more important than his players is going to be a gaping wound if Berhalter stays around now. It just is mind numbingly stupid to assess these factors and expect things to go well now.
Clearly our focus needs to be on the Youth World Cup next Spring and then the Olympic u23 squad the next year. We must take advantage of the Copa America now… and do what we must to be ready for hosting the 2026 World Cup… anything else is just a waist of time and energy, and we only have so much of either.
My opinion has been that we need a new coach and in my opinion Roberto Martinez is far and away the best candidate available to us now but precisely because of that fact we won't be his only suitor so it can't wait all that long if we truly want his services . The man has both high level International experience and successful club level experience at a club that couldn't buy it's way to success… he has fluency in English and Spanish so he can communicate both with our player pool and with the mass media… he just fits the bill better than anyone else available now.

  12. Theory on family dynamics. Gio and the Reynas have little respect for Gregg’s coaching ability and Claudio might even be a little jealous. Gregg knows this and his insecurity (ex. seen with Brooks, Miazga, Hoppe) leads him to select and play players who boost his self esteem and ego. Gregg’s Gio playing time decision had nothing to do with game tactics, health or ability.

  13. Berhalter is on the wrong side of leadership conferences. He has lots of learning to do. Gregg should have been let go of immediately after the World Cup because there was plenty of evidence of him not having much control of the club. That would have simplified things a whole lot.

  14. You brought up the thing about Jay knowing ahead of time. You said it over and over this is crazy nepotism big family business…this HAD TO HAVE BEEN AN OPEN SECRET !!!!

I also thing we (media, and commenters) are all using the term "friends" a little to liberally…

  15. USMNT is a clown show. I wouldn't be surprised if they missed out on a few important dual nationals because of all the nonsense
