An excellent half hour film today in Edmiston House about the life and times of Bob McPhail.
McPhail was signed from Airdrie in 1927 for a then substantial fee of £5,000 and went on to become one of the most prolific "strikers" ever to play for the club, scoring 261 goals in 408 league games.
The original no.10 (inside left), before the players wore numbers, his record stood for over 50 years before being broken by Ally McCoist in 1997.
He was on £8 a week when an average wage was £1-£1.50. He received a £650 signing bonus which was enough to buy a house in those days.
He declined to play for Scotland v England at Wembley in 1930, 1932 and 1934 because Rangers were playing in the Scottish Cup Final the following Saturday. Rangers won all three and Mr McPhail scored in both games v Kilmarnock in 1932 and against St Mirren in 1934.
A true LEGEND of the Club when the word is often abused.

I remember seeing an interview when Ally broke Bob McPhail’s scoring record and he had nothing but respect and admiration for “Mr McPhail”. A true Rangers legend.
