Belgium international and former Borussia Dortmund player, Axel Witsel, was unveiled at Atletico Madrid on Wednesday.
“Yes, I was free and I chose Atletico Madrid because I wanted to continue to play at the top level. I might not have 10 years left to play any more and I want to make the best out of the time I have left,” said the 33-year-old.
“He’s obviously one of the best coaches in the world and he is one of the reasons I’m here today,” he added when asked about Diego Simeone.
Witsel, a midfielder, was Atletico Madrid’s first signing of the summer after four seasons in the Bundesliga.
