No wonder Gio has behaved as poorly as has been reported. You can hardly blame him.
He was raised by parents so emotional and entitled that they would attempt to exploit a dark moment in the life of their "friends", simply because their son wasn't being coddled by his manager.
So not only have they publicly hurt their friends, but now they have also caused unnecessary controversy and smeared their own son's reputation. Unbelievable
Correction 1: Gio Reyna didn't have a limited role because he had a bad attitude. He had a bad attitude because he was told in advance (before their informal friendly, even) that he would have a limited role.
That doesn't make it OK, and Gio himself has acknowledged as much, but it is an important distinction.
Correction 2: Danielle Reyna did not reveal the incident from 32 years ago because of the incidents at the World Cup. Rather, it was in the wake of Berhalter speaking publicly about Gio's conduct at a conference after the World Cup.
Again, this does not justify her behavior, but again, it is an important distinction.
Gio's lack of playing time in the WC has to do with his dad Claudio (as GM) "releasing" coach's son Sebastian from Austin FC after being on loan. The team needed offense, and USMNT Coach Berthalter didn't follow the advice of former star Landon Donovan who said the team needed to play Gio more.

I live in The USA this is an exact reflection of the entitled parents who pay for their kids to play “soccer”.
if you read Berhalters statement about the assault. he sounds like a hypocrite. He writes it was isolated incident and a terrible decision made by an 18 yr old in the heat of the moment. Gio Reyna also showed bad attitude in the heat of the moment he was 18 years old.
So all this is snowballing due to poor leadership shown by Berhalter. If he hadnt had told the leadership forum about Gio Reynas none of this would’ve happen
Maybe Claudio Reyna moving Greg Berhalters son on from Austin FC because he didn’t make the cut, is of relevance?

The Reyna's are truly awful people. Imagine holding onto a secret against your best friend for 30+ years as ammunition in care they spurn you later in life, and then actually going through with it/trying to ruin your former-friends life. Claudio is 90 IQ/I think he's just going along for the ride. The wife, alas, is a real piece of work. Gio should not be allowed to go near the USMNT ever again.
This story sounds like an American housewives type stuff,so classless and degrading.

Berhalter needs to go based on his crappy football decisions alone.
Honestly after that cup, there's a very good chance, were i Reyna, I'd probably just step away from the National team until Berhalter was gone. A Carlos Vela situation.
1) Berhalter's already admitted he kicked the woman, his now wife. That's not an allogation and truth.
2) As for Reyan's wife. It should be known she was college roommates and teammates with the woman kicked, Berhalter's now wife. So this has been a long time coming i'd guess. Like i'd bet she has always hated him. They might have been friendly but she probably never liked him.
3) My guess is this isn't simply retaliation for not being played. I think this was told to the US Soccer Federation directly after Berhalter went public with the comments that Gio was Disruptive at that public speaking event. So my reading is that probably set it over the top. The not playing Gio was bad, but the airing of public dirty laundry was what promted Mrs Reyna to say, "Well if you're airing that laundry Greg, and are trying to claim you're above reproach, i'll air your old dirty laundry and show that you are not so clean cut." That's my read.

US soccer is generations behind other countries. I always cheer for the US woman's just becuase they have style and some flare, not like the boring US mens team that paly a waaaaaaay too conservative style of soccer. Bores me half to death when ever i watch them. Besides Landon Donovan, Pulsic and Dempsey, no one else passes the eye test or has the "IT" factor to being something speacial.
