If you don’t have any spare spools, here’s a simple way to store your mainline for future use. I wanted to re-use this line as backing line as I’d done a lot of fishing with it and it was time to change it.

  1. Hi. I do it with a length of 12 mm all thread. In the drill chuck and the old line spool trapped between 2 nuts and washers. If I have a real without a spare spool I will load it braid first for the required amount then the mono or cheap braid to fill the spool / the backing. Then use the drill spool trick to run it off the reel. You will then need to move the line to another spare plastic spool to reverse the line before finally back on the reel and now I have the perfect amount of backing and line. You can open the bail arm and feed it straight of the spool of the reel on to the spool in the drill. This way you are not adding twists during this.

  2. I used drill bits and just put tape around till it fits the spool.
Now i use a long screw with hexbolts on both ends.
I also use some wire which i bend in a right angle at the end, stick it to my spool from the reel and clamp the wire which sticks out under the spool in a vice, it srays put that way.
