As an Aussie from downunder and I'm watching the huge success Ange is having at Celtic. I'm not surprised, because he had a vision of attacking football and our football federation could not see it. I think the "speed" issue is being interpreted incorrectly by a lot of the people commenting on it. Maeda is no 100-yard sprinter, though he does have the ability to dash in behind the defense. If you want flat-out speed, that is more the skill set of Junya Ito (Genk – who is actually ahead of Maeda in the NT pecking order). I seriously doubt that Daizen is going to outrun many SPL defenders in a one-on-one sprint for the ball. Maeda's sort of "speed" is best seen in interplays and what he does when he has the ball at his feet. Its best to understand by comparing him to Kyogo.
Kyogo is the sort of player who runs off the ball, spots patches of green space and runs into it, then tries to get the "business end" done with one or two touches, at most. Daizen, by contrast, is a player who loves to receive the ball at his feet, facing up to his defender, and then take him on one-on-one. The "speed" that Maeda is talking about is based on the acceleration he gets out of a standing start, and the speed at which he shifts the ball from foot to foot as he charges past you. In other words, the two are very dramatically different challenges to deal with, for a defender. This is why I really think Ange is likely to play the two up front as a pair (3-4-1-2) when facing tough opposition, where neither has a fixed position or role. Together, they can really fluster defences with their differing threats.
Why is no one talking about a contract extension for Ange..he's been the best signing by a length.. people will be looking at the job he's done , with what was a mess.. very impressive.
Ange has spent $5million and probably got $25mill in value.

I'm Japanese and I wonder why they signed Daizen Maeda and Yosuke Ideguchi. Reo Hatate may make it, but I think these two are mistakes. Maeda is not a good scorer. He is just fast and has no shooting technique. I'm sorry, but don't expect it to work.
