The United States needed a win to advance to the next round of the FIFA World Cup. Christian Pulisic gave the US the lead via a Sergino Dest assist in the 38th minute, before he was forced out due to injury at half time. The US ended up prevailing and securing a 1-0 win over Iran, knocking their rivals out. However, this didn’t come without controversy as Iran feel they were robbed of a penalty in the final minutes of the game.

  1. not a penalty. but honestly respect to that player, he got a hell of a touch on the ball while dropping to the ground and selling a foul

  2. I watched the game at stadium at very close distance and I'm Iranian too,it's not penalty and I've seen Iranian player when America player touch him , he's falling down himself, and Iranian player recently at any game he played, he did it for getting penalty and making foul referees.

  3. He flopped. They flopped on the final play as well. At one point an Iranian defender whent full Neymar screaming when the US player accidentally caught the back of his leg with his cleats.

  4. If you're in that position, just take the shot. Don't play with the purpose of drawing fouls, play to score. If he fully committed to trying to score a foul probably would've been called.

  5. robbery, as a former semi pro footballer, thats a penalty. It took away a goalscoring opportunity. Penalties have been called for lighter touches, the least the referee could have done is a VAR check

  6. We don't have a … dynamometer, the referee does n't have one, the var does n't have one either.
But this expression about players "going down too easily" is really used rather freely. In reality everything depends on the player's direction of motion and the instantaneous position of the centre of gravity. Football players are tough guys. To bring one down you normally need to push him real hard – charge at him and push him real hard. But what if he is off ballance, attempting to do something with the ball ?
Then if you just nudge him the right way he goes down quite easily.
So what was this one ?
It is possible that the hand on the shoulder was an involuntary touch with no effect. In this case the Iranian either loses balance by himself or he fakes.
But the bare evidence suggests it was a pullback and therefore a penalty.
Again without a dynamometer it's impossible to say with precision but it looks like a penalty and USA unfairly takes the place of Iran in the round of 16.
