Callum Wilson is soon to be a West Ham player.

The 33-year-old striker has agreed a one-year, pay-as-you-play deal at the London Stadium after leaving Newcastle United on a free transfer. He’s passed his medical, the contract is signed, and the move is happening…

But not everyone’s happy. Despite Wilson’s Premier League pedigree, many West Ham fans are questioning the logic of signing an injury-prone striker for a team desperate to move forward.

Is this a smart short-term fix — or another classic example of the board backing an agent move over the manager’s wishes?

  1. All I can think think is potter intends to bring in the youngsters to bring down the age of the squad ., why not just keep Antonio .. Antonio could definitely provide a threat coming on late if his fitness comes back

  2. West ham look the the trump administration behind the scenes .. chaotic and full of shit and nepotism.. we even have an owner that has a dodgy past and likes women on the younger side 🤦‍♂️

  3. This is the most ridiculous signing we have done for a long time and takes up a squad place that can go to an academy player. I really hope this doesn't fuck up Callum Marshalls place. The poisoned dwarf does us again. 🤬🤬

  4. I think the FA need to investigate this. So does Wilson as it’ll mean he’ll be 35 by the time it’s concluded that the goblin is sharing brasses with the agent – ‘allegedly’ of course…

  5. Gonzo, I think that it's a joke on buying Wilson, we might of well kept Ings, Wilson ingery is quite high, can we afford that much sitting around on a bench…..I thought that West ham was skint?

  6. theyre getting older…but…cheaper….well the moneys going for the keeper isnt it..fair enough..need a great keeper…..we blew the money last year on defenders and midfielders who just havent performed……wait till he starts scoring goals…Gonzo…..hopefully stays fit…COYI…he sounded keen and raring to go in his hammers shirt signing,,,I m excited…lol…🤗COYI

  7. "Confidence in his own ability" is absolutely right. He knows he's not 23 anymore but he does know the Premiership, he knows Premiership defenders, he knows how to score a goal and, like it or not, if he plays, he will score important goals for us and upset other supporters the same way he's upset us for many seasons! Burnley have just signed a 35-year-old right back but he'll do a job for them because of his footballing brain.

  8. What I would say is he was an excellent goal scorer, but at 33 and injury prone is he going to be able to help the cause. Hoping Antonio would now want to stay, and the friendly competition between the two could work in our favour. However, if any of this blocks Marshall’s progress that would be unacceptable. I wonder just what Potter will do, when push comes to shove. Moyes had none of it, when a player was brought in without his blessing. Let’s hope Potter reacts as strongly, if not in favour.

  9. Says it all. Get rid of one donkey (Ings) & bring in another. Absolute joke of a transfer. Bloke is slower than me & I'm 56. I'd sign on pay as you go to sit on a bench with an ice pack strapped to my balls. Pathetic – would never pay to watch that clown.

  10. I’m all for a smart deal like Walker-Peters… personally I’d never want Wilson at West Ham, surely there’s other free options out there…

Move on Paqeta and get in Elliot along with someone like Mcatee… I can live with a season of Fulkrug/Wilson if we get the supporting cast right now.

With the Kudus and Paqeta money we could start a rebuild.

  11. Going to play devil's advocate here. But it might work out to be, at worst not that bad a deal. Wilson being on very low wage with bonuses, motivates him to keep fit and give 100% when selected, while demotivating Potter to pick him if he turns out to be a dud.

I agree while it's difficult to get excited about this transfer. It's not necessarily the worst deal in the world. There's room for both him and Marshall, who I don't think we should rely on should the worst happen to Fulkrug.
